You have a lot of homework to do before October 6. :D

I would suggest you read all the forums you can for these kinds of answers. There is a whole lot to having this surgery and living with your band that you really need to arm yourself with.

Constipation - it will come after you begin solids. I recommend some Fiber tablets or high Fiber cereals or both.

Before that, diarrhea usually visits shortly after you return home due to your liquid diet (which you will be on from 2-4 weeks) and the barium you have to drink before you leave the hospital.

Sex - I haven't had any in a year, and I don't want to talk about it. :think lol. but, I hear it's business as usual according to your pain levels.

Yes, it's normal to have some hair loss somewhere down the road around 4-7 months after surgery. They say this is inevitable due to the anesthesia, Protein and hormone levels due to weight loss. Who knows the real answer. I say all of the above.

I still swallow whole pills every night, but I have been restricted too tight where I had to resort to crushing or liquid mixtures. These are things to discuss with your doctor, for sure.

Yes, your stomach will swell. The first 2-4 days is the toughest but some folks go back to work after 3 days. I say give it at least a week and you'll feel much better. 2 if you have it.

Please keep reading, there is no way we can give you everything you need to know all at once. This is a very serious step you are taking and you need to be armed with all the knowledge you can so you don't have any surprises.

I wish you luck!

Seriously, find out everything that you can about this surgery before you have it! You can go to Inamed's website and read all about the band, how it works, food, etc. Old posts have a wealth of information available. Several drs. have their own websites with info. I can pm you my dr. info. if you'd like it (just to read for info.). The more informed you are, the better you will do. Can you give a little history on yourself - ex. weight, height, any health problems, age, etc. Did you say that you've already been approved through your insurance co.? Who will be your surgeon and where will you be having your surgery done (in states or in Mexico)? We'll share anything that we've learned. But we're not medically trained, just Bandsters trying to live a healthier life. Please do take care of yourself! Best of luck to you!:D

Hello,

Take slip on shoes, bending over will be painful for a few days. Getting off the toilet or off the bed is a bit challenging the first few days too but not impossible and not too painful because you will get pain medication. I have a busy physical job but was fine only taking one week off. I think sex might hold off for a week or two most certainly. You will be sore and tired for a few days but it isn't anything too horrible or untolerable. Make sure you have your house stocked with juice and Clear liquids too. You won't want to go shopping for a couple of days. I am 4.5 months post-op and haven't noticed any hair loss yet even after losing 63 lbs. I track all of my daily calories and nutrients on a free program at www.fitday.com. That site also tracks my Protein, fat and carbs. I know several people have experienced Constipation once on solids but I have not. I never had any diahrea in the begining either. I am able to swallow pills but some of your biggest ones might need to be broken up. I don't recall taking any solid pills during the liquid phase though. I sure hope the best for you and keep in touch. Best wishes, Teresa
