I am a 42 year old working mom who, in the past two years, has come to feel the burden of these excess pounds. Terrible pain in my weight bearing joints, especially my knees, has led me to the choice of weight loss surgery. I was a 1.5 pack a day smoker and managed to quit last October. I was told that the surgeon wouldn't even see a smoker until they had quit for 6 months. IDK if that's true, but it was for the best anyways I guess. So I had my first appointment with the surgeon in June. Spent July getting my letter of necessity, psych eval, labs, etc...then the wait for insurance approval. I got the call on August 29 from my doctors office. The surgery date is September 28. So I found this site and have been reading about other peoples' experiences and finding it very helpful and interesting.
