I am 51 years old and have been overweight all my life. After a few years of my PCP recommending I at least try a consult I finally asked for the referral. I hadn't tried that many times in my life to lose weight but every time I did I stalled out and could never seem to get over the hump. That always resulted in me getting discouraged and regaining what I had lost, sometimes plus some.
I went for my last pcp visit in December 2014 and weighed in at 331. I went to my consult with Dr. William Johnson and weighed 322 on January 29, 2015. I was at 303 when I received my approval from insurance friday April 24, 2015.
I chose to do the Gastric Sleeve because I don't want a foreign body in me, nor do I want the absorptive issues affiliated with bypass. My surgeon agreed that was the correct path for me.
My surgery was May 15th of 2015. I was sleeved as an outpatient at Emory John's Creek Hospital. The only thing I regret is not having done this sooner.
I found Bariatric Pal through a web search for support groups and look to find and share information, milestones with those who understand and share my experience.
I am someone who loves to laugh and find humor in almost anything. I have a lot of sedentary hobbies and am looking forward to getting on the move when I am better able. I have a tremendously supportive husband who works out every day so I have a wonderful coach for the gym.
I am not telling my family because I have not had the best relationship with them over my weight, so its none of their business. Some of them have annoyed me e to lose weight and I just don't want to hear the questions constantly asking how much I have lost. Fortunately for me they do not live close so they will see me when I am ready.
I am doing this for me because I want to be around for a very long time and spend it with my husband. All my co-workers know and are very excited for me and are excitedly watching the changes as I lose.
If you have read all this then thank you for your time. If you want to speak privately feel free to send me a message, I promise I won't bite. I speak sarcasm fluently and love to meet new people and hear their stories. I look forward to interacting with you all and offering what I can. We can all do this together.
