You can never finish a marathon unless you take the first step.
I'm new here, I've been thinking about some sort of WLS for a couple years now. It was back in 2009 when I had a freak heart event otherwise known as a supra ventricular tachycardia or SVT. It was scary as hell so naturally I went to the emergency room and then referred to a cardiologist. He did a whole work up on me and did a stress test. He said I passed with flying colors but said I really needed to lose weight and suggested WLS. I though he was nuts. I was only 245 at 5'9" and (still fat, but) athletic. Two years previous I completed my 9th marathon so the idea of getting surgery seemed far fetched.
Fast forward to 2011 I was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. It was pretty mild for cancer compared to other cancers but of course it was quite scary. I went through 5 months of chemo which included prednisone which is a steroid. I started to gain some serious weight really fast and once off the drugs whatever muscle I gain turned into fat and I continued to grow. I am now at 315 and exhausted. The day I turned 40 was my turning point and I felt I had no choice but to run an intervention on myself. As a CPA and consultant I crunched the numbers and analyzed the range of probability. It was not pretty and almost every scenario produced worse and worse results. It was time for a serious change and that is how I got here today.
Let's just do it.
