I have had weight issues all of my adult life but things got severe after my two pregnancies. I was sick for both pregnancies and actually lost weight while pregnant because I could not keep food down. Once I delivered, I was able to eat again and the weight piled on and I ballooned. I am in my 50s, I am 5 ft 4 in, I weigh 260 lbs and have just been miserable. I am ready for a change. I have been researching Weight Loss Surgery for about 7 years. I'm not one to rush in to anything and this is no exception. About 7 years ago I went to my first seminar (I've been to three over the years) but the only thing they talked about was the gastric bypass and the band and I was a bit turned off by both procedures. The second seminar I attended about 4 years ago and they mentioned the sleeve but the doctors seemed to be pushing the other surgeries rather than the sleeve. So again, I just waited. I started doing research again and attended yet another seminar at the beginning of October and everything was so different. I knew that this surgeon giving the seminar is the one I wanted to do my surgery, and I have decided on the sleeve as I think it fits my needs. Anyway, I have completed all of my paperwork and submitted it to the Dr's office. I am awaiting insurance approval, which I know they will approve because I have federal BCBS. They know it's cheaper to pay for the WLS than to pay for later obesity issues. Once the approval comes back I will meet with the doctor and start the medical preliminaries. Wow, I had no idea how thorough they would be with all these exams. I am looking for others who are going through this process who can serve as support during this process.
