The year 2012 I found myself at the highest weight I have ever been in my life. I stepped on the scale and the number that flashed back at me nearly made me faint. It couldn't be right! Those digital scales...you know they can be wrong, have weak batteries or something like that. So I went to the store and bought one of those medical scales with the BIG dial and numbers that you set to zero so it can't fool you. You know the ones right? You might see them in your doctors offices. I went out and bought myself one. I waited till the next morning, took my shower and in my birthday suit stepped on that scale.
The number...maybe I needed to put my glasses on to read it right...so I got off and got my glasses and weighed those first they didn't register on the scale at all. OK. It was as I had feared I was nearly 280 pounds! I mean yeah I knew I was eating badly I knew I was not following any and I mean any kind of diet. I was eating, everything. I was happy I was eating, I was sad I was eating, I was bored I was eating and all that eating added up to the number I was seeing on that scale. I was a bit sick to be honest.
I wasn't sure what I wanted to do about it...at the moment nothing but get dressed and go to work. I was getting tired all the time. I could barely make it from my car to the office without feeling the need to want to sit down, but how would that look? The fat girl needs a break, can't even make it to the office from her car. I couldn't let that be me, I would huff and puff with my head down and hope to make it to the elevator without anyone talking to me.
After a long arduous year, my husband and I both at our highest weights ever him facing a hip replacement and doctors that would not touch him in surgery due to his weight and co-morbidities went to see a Bariatric Dr. renowned in the field and recommended to me. We were so on board with this Lapband surgery! I was so convinced it would be a saving grace a miracle for me that I even allowed my surgery to be video conferenced around the world.
Here I am 5 years later...
The lapband was no my saving grace. It has been so for my husband who has been able to lose weight and have his hip replacement surgery. For me after a year of being banded my body began to reject it. I started having major issues in 2016 and had to have the band removed and time to heal. In 2017 I began the journey to getting a revision surgery as in the year that followed I had gained back the lost weight. Along with increased danger of my comorbities. I was not doing well and not healthy.
Due to some other internal complications it has taken me time and a change of surgeons and surgical practices to find a specialist who would work with me, and perform the gastric bypass.  Today I am 6 days post op, feeling better and more than ready to make all the changes required to continue on this path of health.
