Biggest Loser TV and how they use the Bodybugg

Recommended Posts

Hi again-

I forgot to say on my other thread that a big reason I bought the Bodybugg was that I saw how the Biggest Loser TV show uses it.

The contestants wear a Body Bugg and work out until the Bugg shows a certain number of calories burned per day.

I saw Bob tell one man that he had a long way to go to get to 3800 cals burned. If you figure that a man uses 2500 cals per day and exercises to 3800- he will be 1300 cals down every day.

THAT's how they get those big weight losses every week.

Excercising enough to burn 3800 cals is about 6 to 8 hours of exercising for me and that's what they do on that show.

I think it is unfair that they do not tell you what the contestants go through to lose 5 to 15 pounds a week. Makes the rest of us dieters look like we just don't work hard.

The Bodybugg does tell you how many cals you are using and it has been extremely helpful to me- see my other thread on this board.

That is interesting. I will have to look that thing up.

I did read that it takes 3500 calories to equal 1 pound. Makes more sense as to why it take so long to lose weight.

Sadie:

What I'd like to know is how they can lose that much weight and not be flabby like I am. Do you think they wear Spanx under their workout clothing?

They are still very inspirational. I figured that they must be working out all day every day to pull those kind of losses. Thanks for verifying that for me.

I love my band and my new flat tummy!

I also got the Bodybugg because I saw it on The Biggest Loser. It is great.

Ladies, you have to understand that men's physiology is much different from yours when it comes to burning calories.

For a 400 pound man to burn 3,800 calories; he just has to be alive :)

At 365 pounds I was burning 4,500 calories a day with little or no exercise.

They are a lot flabbier than any of us. You could see the body shapers under their clothes. Why do you think the men don't take their shirts off any more?

Another way they lose huge amounts each weigh-in is by sometimes NOT doing them weekly. (They air weekly, but not all weigh-ins reflect a single week's loss.)

They ARE flabby! Havent you noticed how the men stop taking their shirts off?

Its all lighting and tricky camera work but every now and again you get a glimpse.

The winner here in Australia a season or two ago had major all over plastic surgery and was very open about it.

As we all know and have said to each other over and over again. There are no miracles here. Hard work, dedication and desire with the band is what the magic is. I personally don't watch stuff like that because I want to stay focused on my own weight loss and I tend to compare myself to others if it is on TV. It is just better for me not to get caught up in it. I have been spending a lot more time outdoors and doing the things I love and it is really helping me.

To each their own. If I didn't watch stuff like TBL, I may not have found the motivation to go for it myself. I sit there thinking, "if they can do it, I can too!"

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
