lapband and a cpap machine

Recommended Posts

I was banded on Oct 27 and doing fairly well, having lost 26 pounds, and going for my 3rd fill on Monday. I am now at 4 cc's. Get hungry 2 hours after a meal. Still learning to eat correctly, (slow and thoroughly). I am on a cpap for sleep apnea and just had my pressure lowered from 14 to 12. Is it normal to swallow so much air at night while on lapband? I have so much abdominal gas that it is not funny. Also some during the day, so wonder if the lapband is any cause? I hope to ease off the cpap machine within another 20 or so pounds, but will see. Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I was banded on August 31 and have lost 46 pounds so far.

I too am on a CPAP and will be having my pressure reduced to 12 from 14 also.

I havn't had any problem with gas using the CPAP.

Good job on the weight loss

I find that I swallow air when my chin strap is not tightened enough and my mouth is open for part of the night with the Cpap going. When I remember to make it tighter I no longer have the issue. Just my 2 cents.

On a BTW, how did you know the time was right to lower the pressure on your CPAP? I am down 43 lbs since surgery in October and really have not thought about it until I read your post. Thanks

I was banded on Aug 11,2009 and have lost 62 pounds now. I am no longer on my Cpap machine at all. I took myself off of it since my pulmonary physician said I could do just as well on a wedge pillow or two pillows. My sleep apnea is very very mild and I was put on the machine just to satisfy insurance for the surgery. I am doing fine.

As for losing the weight, it's b/c I follow the rules so strictly. Protein, Protein, protein, and my Water. It's my two main ingredients of weight loss. I don't do any exercise to speak of yet. Just every once in awhile. I am happy with my results and don't want to lose any faster than I am doing now.

Michelle, for me it isn't so much what I eat but how much. Before surgery I never got full. I got tired of eating or there was nothing left within reach...lol. With the band and a fill my portion sizes compared to what I was eating is about 1/4 of previous. I exercise for about 1/2 hour 3-4 wk on an elliptical machine. Don't really snack but do have small desert or treat a few times a week. Just enough to know the edge off. I am sure it will become more difficult in the near future but so far just decreasing the intake has worked wonders for me.

I think probably by end of January I will see my PCP about decreasing the CPAP and see where I am at from there.

I was banded 1/20/09, and use a CPAP, and couldn't use it for the month after surgery because of the gas, it was too much pressure going in and gas trying to get out. I burp a LOT still, and never thought about the CPAP being one reason... thanks! I was reduced to 13, but actually now have a variable pressure between 5 and 13 (max). they won't do another sleep test for a year. I've lost 50 pounds, and last visit to the sleep center I hadn't stopped the apnea, but it had lessened.

I am just glad that I love my CPAP, and have since 2005. I had my procedure done in 2009 (Feb), and have lost 62 lbs, but honestly even when I do not need it anymore, I will most likely still keep using it just to insure my good nights rest. Honestly, I do not feel it contributed to the gas issue, but I do feel that it may have something to do with not being able to eat solids during the morning hours and just liquids (Dryness to the esophagus). Don't quote me on that though!

my weight is coming off slow. I have lost about 25 pounds since June12th. That's okay though. As long as it is going down...then I can wait. It is better if it is coming off slow. It depends on how heavy you are at the time of surgery too. It comes off faster the more you need to lose usually. Then it may slow down a bit. Wow...62 pounds is a good loss! Congrats!!!!

I am 2 yrs out with my band, I have 8.8 cc and I still use my cpap. My setting is at 9. I dont take it campng anymore, But I know when I use it I will feel good and rested the next day. I really don't want to give it up. I was recently working a second job at night and came home and was able to get about 6.5 to 7 hrs sleep and still felt great. The gas is probably coming from the extra Protein or if you are consuming a high amount of Sugar alcohols, that will give your more gas as well..

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
