Jumping In

Recommended Posts

Hi all...I've decided I'm gonna do it! I've been reading this board for months now, have researched, found the money (like it was under a rock or something!) and now just need to start the process. Geez, just writing about it makes me nervous.

Here are the facts:

  • My employer has an exclusion for WLS, so no insurance
  • I've decided on Dr. Sanchez in Monterrey because his nephew in Dallas is only 90 miles away for fills
  • I am divorced and one daughter is in college and another in another city. So it's just me and my lap band. They're supportive though which is good.
  • I don't personally know anyone who has done this, though I feel like I know you guys from reading all the posts.
  • I have a ton of questions.

So get ready for lots of questions. Hopefully I can re-pay somewhere down the line when someone is in the shoes I'm in now.

Welcome aboard. Always glad to have new friends show up. As you know, this is a great, caring and supportive group of people that really get into helping one another. Questions, fire away. There are at least 3 or 4 people who will totally understand and will share their words of wisdom. Sometimes you'll get even more responses than that.

Take Care

Cindy

Fire away with questions. I had no local support at all either (at the time) and couldn't do this without LBT. Now, there are a group of us that have been getting together regularly, which is nice. It can be done, just don't go far. Welcome to LBT!

Thanks for all the words of encouragement. Why so long? The $ is coming from my dad and that's when he can do it :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
