Are you feeling like crap emotionally or physically?

If it is an emotional issue, please remember you are three weeks post-op. You are in the healing process still. Your swelling is going down, and you probably have no fill yet, so hunger is normal. You have a long trip in front of you, so don't be too hard on yourself. As long as your are eating soft healthy food, and do not get sick, you are fine.

If physical, is it pain? Please expand.

i had my first fill yesterday i was in such a rush to get to work that i forgot to ask how many cc's it was, but i think i feel bad both mentally and physically. physically because when i do eat my chest feels funny and i feel somewhat uncomfortable, and mentally because my mind plays games on me and tells me that maybe i shouldn't have eaten that

You should not feel bad about eating too much!!! You are starting a long hard road. Don't let anyone tell you this is an easy thing. I am one of four people in my group of friends who have had the surgery, and we all went throught the head hunger vs. real hunger. You are going to forget and PB/slime etc. You are going to do it more than once. After a couple of incidents, you will learn the difference, and will try to be more carefull. I think it is the Pavlo's dog thing  I know this isn't a popular thing, as it can cause you to lose your band, but I haven't met one bandster who hasn't gone through it yet.

The pain in the chest is referred to as the "golf ball" or "stuck". I still get it if I eat a too large a bite. It helps to stand and walk around between bites. Don't try eating again until it passes. I swear it takes me an hour to eat a small plate of food, but I enjoy every bite.

As long as you are on mushies, you should be fine. I didn't feel like myself until well into the 5th week, but I always healed slowly. There is some discomfort if you are still swollen and trying to eat, which may be what you are experienceing. Keep to small portions, eat slow, and stay on mushies.

It appears you are still in the mushy stage???

If so, try and focus on lower calorie soft foods. I have not eaten potatoes since my surgery 8 months ago because they are too fattening. You can eat oatmeal with some Protein powder added to boost the Protein. Fat free Greek yogurt is very high in Protein. You can have cottage cheese, beans-excellent, low cal source of protein. Get creative. Make some home made chili for the cold days.

Potatoes in and of themselves are not fattening, they are actually fat free. However, it's what you ADD to the potatoes that can make them fattening.

If you are craving mashed potatoes, you can make a healthy version of them. Rather than using cream or milk, use chicken stock, to help make them creamy. You can skip the butter, or use a low cal alternate like "I Can't Believe It's Not Butter Light." You can add fresh chopped chives, a teaspon full of powdered ranch dressing mix, roasted garlic, etc., to add additional flavoring to them without the added fat.

You can also make fat free gravy for the potatoes.

It's all in the preparation of a food as to whether it's fattening or not, unless of course you're talking about Pork rinds, which are fattening no matter how they're prepared!

Before you are so quick to correct me on my post, I think you need to realize that potatoes contain 63 grams of carbs. This is more carbs then I choose to eat in a week while trying to lose weight. Since you are still in the very early stages of your journey perhaps you should be focusing on better, leiner Protein choices.

I never said that they weren't loaded with carbs. I said that they were not fattening, if prepared properly. Fattening = loaded with fat. At least in my book it does.

Sorry you took offense to what I said.

I'm being picky here, but fattening = more than "loaded with fat". Let's take a simple product like pure sugar. Most of us would agree that sugar can be quite fattening if eaten in excess. It's far from loaded with fat, in fact, it has none.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
