Weight gain before first fill??

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

i will be getting my first fill this morning and I know I will have a weight gain when I weigh in. I did great on liquids, mushies, etc. When I started solids, the scale didn't move then went up a little. I already feel like I'm failing with the lap band. I'm down 21 pounds including pre-op diet. Surgery was Nov 9th. I would really appreciate some feedback. Did anyone else have a gain before first fill?? I weighed 205 post op visit on 11/17. Am now 207. Ugh:bored:

Thanks everyone.

The biggest thing i can remind you of is that it takes the fills to get you to your "sweet spot". You are not a failure nor should you feel like one. You have just begun and this surgery is a process. One fill at a time. This surgery requires work along the way and a little will power too. Just hold fast and keep up the good work and you will get there! Good luck!

The transition to solid food often brings a small weight gain. All that liquid pretty much emptied your bowels of waste (this is how you lose weight with a colon cleanse)! You started eating mushy foods. Then the transition to regular food. You're recovered from the surgery, you don't have any restriction to speak of and you're feeding your body normal food. Don't worry! With that first fill, you are on the road for real and it will all start working for you.

It could take several fills to get to your sweet spot, but just eat the portions you've been told to eat and if you get hungry in less than 4 hours, snack on a little bit of Protein .... a boiled egg, a little deli sliced turkey, an ounce of low fat cheese (all of these are about 60-70 calories). It will all come together for you!

I gained 7 lbs before my first fill. My doctor told me not to worry about it, that it happens to some people. I also gain weight (or definitely don't lose) about a week or a week and half before my period. I'm trying hard not to pay too much attention to the numbers. I'm eating better and way less than I ever have, and I am definitely getting healthier!

Try not to worry about the weight gain. It happens. Once you start getting fills and have more restriction, it won't be as difficult as it is now.

Thank you so much for your responses. I feel much more motivated :))

I'm on liquids now that I got the fill. I agree. I eat way less than I used to. Take care everyone!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
