I hate holiday get-togethers!!!!

Recommended Posts

I am on day 11 on my liquid Optifast diet. (and from what I've gathered, my doc definitely seem to fall on the strict side of pre-op diets-no real food at all.) And to top it all off, today is my work's holiday gathering. I'm sitting here while people are bringing in Cookies, pizza, stuffed peppers, cheese, crackers, meat trays, brownies, etc., etc., etc., and I can't have any of it!!!! This is so flipping hard!!!! At least post-op I physically will not be able to eat solid food. Right now it's taking pure willpower, and at 11 days of powdered liquid Meal Replacements and cardboard Protein meal bars, I'm close to cracking! Why, oh why can't I have a low carb, high protein diet? At least then I could have something! Instead, I am forcing myself to get up and go somewhere else, but I know this food is going to be here all day! ACK!

This is definitely a difficult time of the year to be pre-op or newly post-op. Can't imagine it. Find something good to do and get your mind off of it. Looking at all that beautiful food can be very trying. Just think of how great you will feel soon as you are shedding the pounds and keep that will power! LOL

I'm sorry Abby that this is so tough for you. If it's any consolation (which it probably isn't) I'm having to force myself to stay away from our lounge where all the goodies are too. I work in insurance and we get lots of baskets and boxes of holiday treats. But everything, and I mean everything, is loaded with carbs so I can't have anything.

That's okay, because this time next year, I'll be a lot thinner than I am now! That tastes better than any of those yucky, icky, gross things.

Thanks to both of you for the support. It does make me feel a little better.

I am proud of myself for staying away, but boy, was it hard! But of course there are leftovers! I'm feeling a little more fortified today, so I don't think it will be quite as big of a chore to avoid them. Melinco, I don't know how you do it all day with people always bringing things in! Thankfully, I can just keep myself busy. In five more days, it will all be worth it though.

Yeah for you! Doesn't it feel so good to say you didn't partake? Congrats!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
