Hate milk - must I drink it post op?

Recommended Posts

I'm hoping that those of you who have been there, done that can help me out.

I haven't drank milk since I was in 1st grade. I don't like it. I'll drink hot chocolate, but not any type of cold milk.

Surgery is scheduled for Thursday, December 17. One of my post-op "can haves" is skim milk. Ugh. Do you think it's okay if I make a sgar free or low calorie (25 calories or less) of hot chocolate instead? It would be thinner than paint, which is my criteria for the first 5 days after surgery.

Or does anyone have suggestions on how to drink milk? Normally I'd say I'd make a shake out of it by blending it with ice and some vanilla extract, but that would be too thick.

I'm making my list of things to buy tonight at the grocery store as well as pick up all my prescriptions, and just kind of got stuck on the milk issue. I know it's a good source of Protein and Calcium but it makes it hard when I can't stand the stuff.

Thanks for any help you can provide!

I'm not a big fan of milk either I diink an ounce of "liquid Life" (bought it at Sam's club) everyday to make sure I get my Calcium. Then when you are on regular foods you can take Viactiv caramel chews to get your calcium.

Milk isn't required its just a liquid option. I drink a lot of 100% apple juice in the little kid size juice box with the straw.

If it says its a can have but not a requirement then really you don't have to drink it, just make sure if you take it out you have the same amount of something else so your still getting fluids in

Hi Mel,

I don't drink milk either.

I have Fat free half and half in my coffee every day. Occasionlly, I have milk on Cereal, Protein shake(skim milk, ice, fruit, Protein scoop) and sugar free dark choc. pudding for my choc fix.

My multi-vitimin also has Calcium.< /p>

Just get in your calcium each day.

Good Journey,

MaggieGT

I'm a milk hater too but after reading all the benefits of drinking a glass of milk each day, I've decided to make sure I get in an 8 oz glass. I just put it in a blender with my Protein powder and half a banana. It's not thick at all, but it's smooth and creamy.

You might also try to warm it up and mix it with your sugar free hot cocoa instead of Water.

I love milk and drink it a lot but when I don't want it with my Protein, I just use Water. I drink a lot of crystal light also with water of course. I haven't read or heard anything that says you must drink milk. I would talk to your doctor though and see if you need a Calcium supplement of somekind or make sure you are getting your calcium in your foods.

My doc said hot chocolate is just fine for my post op, and I definitely plan on having it.

Thanks, everyone. It isn't a must have, but a can have. I was just thinking during the first five days, it might be good to get it in since I can't have the Viactive calcium chews yet.

I bought a lot of sugar free puddings last night at the grocery store, but those really are for about 1-2 weeks after surgery.

I guess I'll just drink my hot chocolate with the milk.

I may even try making a Protein shake but make it pretty watery. We'll see.

Oh, and I'm so looking forward to my coffee! I've been off of it since I started my pre-op diet since I must have cream in it, and the cream just had too many carbs. So starting Friday, hello coffee!

I recently discovered that the BEST hot cocoa ever is a cup of skim milk with 2 tsp unsweetened cocoa powder and 3 tsp or packets of Splenda. Then microwave it for 2 minutes (at least in my microwave, but it may be wimpy) and stir. It tastes WAY better than any sugar-free hot cocoa mix I've ever tried. (I'm wondering why I didn't figure this out years ago!) Sometimes the baking cocoa clumps, but if you mix the Splenda and cocoa before adding the milk, it doesn't clump as much.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
