Southern Charm 0 Posted December 14, 2009 Who does weights on the same day that they do cardio. My dieation told me not to and I’m not sure why. I can only work out M, W, F’s due to my home life and schedules with 2 kids under the age of 4 so I have to work out extra hard 3 days a week and I have been combining cardio and weights. Is this a problem? Is it a caloric issue?
neveragain 9 Posted December 15, 2009 Actually, it's kind of an interesting concept, or so I've heard. The reason behind this is that because the second workout you do won't be nearly as effective because you'll be incredibly tired already and your body will wanting to repair itself and not creating more damage. However, if you really do want to do this, I would say that do one in the morning and one in the evening with 7-8 hours inbetween to give your body some time to recover. Make sure you get your Protein in after weight training and good luck!!
Jachut 487 Posted December 15, 2009 I do, but personally, I dont like separating them - I do more bootcamp and circuit workouts which combine both weights and cardio into one session - not that I use a lot of weights, more doing chin ups, pushups, lunges and squats, perhaps holding a weight. This type of workout is renowned for burning a LOT of fat. I really think just doing them and doing them consistently is what matters (and makes the real difference), adding in too many rules is just a good way to make it all too hard. I'd do both on the same day and I'd do them in whatever order you please. Its another one of those rules for competitive bodybuilders that gets applied to the layman - it might make a difference but for the results we're wanting, its not significant like it is for someone whose livelihood is riding on it - same as the average athlete doesnt need 55 Protein shakes and 40 different supplements a day at precise times before and after exercise, etc.
greytz 4 Posted December 15, 2009 I spoke to my new personal trainer today and he said the same thing. I will be doing my cardio and weights at the same time and the other portions of my workout. Also, since I do treadmill in the mornings, as he and I discussed, I will be doing that and then going straight to complete the rest of my workout with him. They also do bootcamp once a month and I am not ready for that yet but when I am, I will be attending it as well.
