1 Week Post Op and having Port pain--HELP!!

Recommended Posts

Today makes 1 week since my surgery and everything had gotten better until yesterday when I rode to take my Mother back to the airport. Now I feel like day 3 all over again but with no pain meds. I only have one dose left of my pain meds and this pain woke me up last night. I couldnt move it hurt so bad. Is this a normal reaction when you over do it too soon.

Has anyone had this happen? What should I do?:willy_nilly:

I had my surgery in 2002 and I'll tell you that I still have port pain on occassion. I do believe that it is due to over work of the muscles in that area. Just take it easy and if you need more pain meds to get through another week, your doc should give them to you. Maybe a lower dose.

When I was big into Pilates (which I so need again) the pain and tenderness was more apparent.

This is normal. It takes a good 2 weeks for all of that pain to go away. It does lessen everyday though. You should continue to take it easy for a few more days. If it continues to hurt really bad than I would call your doctor.

As for the pain meds, I would be fine for something less than the percocet they have given me. I have been looking for the liquid tylenol and have been very unsuccessful. I just need something to help me sleep through this port pain at night until it heals. Other than that, I would be up looking at the ceiling.

Thanks you guys.

I couldn't find liquid for adults at the time of my surgery, so I took children's advil and tylenol. Yes, you will have to take a fair amount of it, but it works. Your doc should not have a problem giving you percocet for at least another week or two. We are all different and our pain experiences are too. My pain lasted longer and so got a total of 3 weeks of pain meds. It happens! You have to sleep and be able to move around pain-free!!

Thanks, I have called the nurse and just waiting on a return phone call. But on a brighter note, I am taking liquids and eating very well. :willy_nilly:

That's great to hear. You are new to this and it will take some time for you to get used to all the changes that have been made to your body. Best of luck to you on your goals! We all can do it!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
