Congratulations. This will be a life changing experience for you. One that you will be amazed with. It's normal what you are feeling right now. Have you been diagnosed with sleep Apnea? Do you use a machine? I have had sleep Apnea for about 4 years now and do use a machine. My goal is to be off the machine in another few months.

The Lapband procedure is really not as bad as people think. You will be sore for a few days. You might have some gas from the air that they pump into you during surgery but you will be amazed at how it changes your eating habits. Get yourself some GasX strips for the gas pains. Be sure to take your pain meds if you are prescribed them when you need them and walk as much as you can to help get that trapped gas out. If you follow the plan that your doctor gives you, then you will be a success. Your sleep Apnea should hopefully go away. Unless you have the Apnea that my husband has which is the Apnea baby's get and not from snoring.

I was banded on Oct. 23, 2009 and feel wonderful. I've also had open heart surgery in 2001 for a Aortic Aneurysm. They also had to repair my valve. I will need to get this done in another few years because they used a pigs valve the first time around and they don't last for more than 10 years. The next time I will get a mechanical valve. I am very excited to go back to my cardiologist and show her my progress from the lapband surgery. I've lost 29lbs since surgery. I have more energy and I dropped 3 sizes in clothing. If I had it to do all over again I would.

Please feel free to add me as a friend if you like. I would be happy to answer any questions that you might have that I am able to answer.

Do you sleep with a CPAP machine? I wasn't sure from your post if you stopped breathing at night when asleep.

I am 5 years out and would like to tell you that from what I know, this is the best option for weight loss surgery because it is adjustable. I was a size 22 and am now a 6 for a few years. I was scared too. It's scary making life-changing decisions. If you weren;t scared then that would be abnormal. You have to be aware that this is only a tool that will help you along with proper diet and excersise. once you come to terms with that, you will be ok.

Welcome. I am scheduled to get a lapband in 3 weeks also. I am scared but everyone here is very reassuring. They are helping me get my act together and encouraging me in what I eat and how I excercise. I hope you find the same support I have, Good luck on your journey.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
