Thanks for all your feedback, guys...all opinions are valued! I just want to be clear about something here. I have insane willpower. I quit heroin 7 years ago and my addiction is what the doctors and I believe to be the source of my seemingly impossible to lose weight.

I am saying that to assert in 6 months I'm going to be just fine. I ate a greenbean and an egg because I felt dizzy. I should have made a Protein Shake instead of eating what my husband was eating but it's not like I ate something terrible. I haven't eaten fast food in over a decade and it's just like me to "cave" on a green bean and an egg! lol.

I think everything is going to be ok.

Thanks for all your advice, guys.

Minor freakout but now that I think about it, I think its all good.

Razorgirl,

I don't think the green bean and egg will do any harm, even though we DO all know we are supposed to follow the doctor's guidelines. I would imagine this is a cakewalk compared to stopping the heroine. Just take one day at a time and try to make good decisions.

I think we all have "moments" where craving wins the battle. We just have to limit it.

Good luck on your journey and congrats on overcoming one addiction!

J-I,

Small clarification. Disagreement is not flaming. Flaming is a deliberate, hostile act of a personal nature...which my post was not.

.

actually that was my mistake, so please excuse me. I forgot a word which would have made it read:

I knew I would PROBABLY get...

again, my mistake. I didn't intend to mean you had flamed me.

So I have to be POST surgery to have an opinion? That's pretty darn short sided of a comment to make (twice). I don't recall there being ANY stipulations in place to be able to have an opinion. Thank goodness that's "all you have to say". Good day.

Ladies!

We're all in the same boat here and everyone has different opinions and philosophies on their own lap band journey.

No need to squabble!

Just to let you know how different docs can be, mine has us start on normal food the 4th day after surgery. I will have my surgery on Thursday and can eat solid food on Monday. They did warn us to take only dime size bites and chew really really well, but there is no mushy stage at all for me. And, my surgeon's no quack either... she's highly regarded, center of excellence, does a huge volume of surgeries here and difficult cases too (70+ BMI). So, I think there is a lot of wiggle room on what you can do post-op.

I think the most important thing to do is to listen to your own body. And, rather than feel bad or guilty about breaking the 'rules', I would just call your own surgeon's dietician/nutritionist and let them know if you are too hungry. It probably just means you are healing faster and ready to move to the next stage faster, but they can help you to make the best choices for first foods. Seems like you made some pretty good choices on your own, though.

I agree w/many of the other posters here that you should NOT beat yourself up over this or worry that it is some sign of failure. One of the things the psychologist at my surgeon's office emphasizes is that we MUST get over this 'all or nothing' mentality. Nobody is going to get through this journey without making mistakes or breaking some rules. If you are able to attend support groups, that helps a lot because you will see real people who have succeeded and know that even the best of the best success stories have hit a few bumps in the road. I wouldn't even call this a bump, though... more like a tiny tiny pebble.

I just have to add that I just ate the best banana that ever existed in the history of mankind.

It was the banana of the gods.

Oh and I called the clinic and they practically laughed at me for freaking out over a string bean.

All is well.

Razorgirl, I just had to laugh, because I was in the exact same position two days ago....the same position being I ate the egg of the gods....after 3 weeks on liquids, I nearly cried when I ate that first egg, it tasted so good!

As far as cheating goes, I probably didn't stick to my post op liquid diet to the letter; I took Soups and blended them to "suckable" consistency. My instructions for that stage were anything you could suck through a straw, so I may have taken a few liberties....but I am so happy to be on soft foods, I could just dance.

Keep us posted!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
