Hey there. Got banded on the 4th...2 days till the "mushies" stage, tonight I ate a green bean and a scrambled egg and I'm freaking out. Could I have caused pouch enlargement or slippage with a green bean and an egg?

I feel ok...I think. Every little feeling is making me wonder if something is wrong and I really can't tell.

Anyone have any opinions or personal experiences?

I could use some input here I'm freaking out. :willy_nilly:

I did something like that. I told my doctor and he laughed and said "It's not a crime, be carfeful". Don't worry but try to stick to the guidelines.

Yeah I'm going to call and tell them tomorrow.

I am worried that I'm digesting and the stitches are being stressed. I guess I'll see tomorrow what they say.

Until then, probably be worried!

I would be careful, since they did not send you home on mushies. I don't think you did anything too bad; I came home on mushies eating eggs and such....Hang in there.

I wouldn't worry about it. Some people go home on mushies which says that the rules are arbitrary and vary between doctors. I went home on liquids and then spent 2-3 days on each stage and full diet at 2 weeks.

Actually, I would be worried. Not so much of what you ate, but that you couldn't hold out your last two days until mushies. Caving in this early, what does that say about how you'll do six months from now? A little of this.. a little of that? I don't intend for this to come across mean.. more of a wake up call. Stick to your program and you will be successful.

I have faith in you :willy_nilly:

Don't let anyone scare you into believing that you've done something awful.... if you chewed slowly u should be fine. As far as your will power food has a power of it's own surgery doesn't remove it's power over you, it's there to help you learn to control it. It's not instant, and it's not fullproof. Be easy on yourself, and keep trying

When someone 'caves' this early, what does it say? It says that they're healing from their surgery and back to normal...nothing more. 'Caving' in now says 'nothing' about how she'll do 6 months from now when her band is working for her.

Only the band was inserted at surgery...not willpower or self-control or a lack of hunger or even renewed motivation.

I totally understand that. However, I was pointing out that 2 days left is 2 days, not 14, not 10. I didn't intend to shake my finger at her, I did intend for her to examine the situation. And actually yes, I do believe it is a small indicator of what's to come.

I knew I'd get flamed for that remark, but I do stand by it.

I was allowed mushies after surgery so don't worry too much. I remember on the 5-6 day that I was more hungry that I have ever been in my life. I don't think this is an indicator, I think this was your body trying to survive on such little food. You are commited, don't let anyone tell you that your not or put doubts in your mind about how sucessful you will be. If others can do this, so can you! Keep your chin up!

I have the band now 5+ years, and can tell you from experience that you need to be very careful and try really hard to stick to what your doc says as far as eating guidelines go. I know it's hard and we don't change our eating habits because of surgery overnight, but you have to try to get your mind wrapped around this new you and take care of this tool you received that will help you reach your goals!

This is a lifestyle change. Not a life change. Everyone makes mistakes. We are human. The band is not a miracle that is going to get you to stop eating and follow a strict program. You will learn as you go along that if you stick to the plan that your doctor gave you, you will be more successful. You aren't going to hurt your band just because you had a green bean and an egg. If you totally pigged out, then I would say you run the risk of stretching your pouch. But I'm sure you didn't do anything wrong.

From now on, even if it is hard, follow the program. You'll be fine. Nothing to worry about.

J-I,

Small clarification. Disagreement is not flaming. Flaming is a deliberate, hostile act of a personal nature...which my post was not.

I think the point Elfiepoo and I were making is this band is not mind control it's portion control... I'm pretty sure one string bean isn't a band buster, yes becareful my all means but don't worry yourself sick. She is only human and so are you.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
