feeling like a failure

Recommended Posts

Ive been sitting here looking at veryones before and after pics and i really feel like im failing even with my band.i was banded feb 25,2009 and im only down 55 pounds if im lucky, the scale seems to go up and down just like it did before my band.its like im back on my yoyo diets.its real frustrating knowing im not eating anything like i used to and its just not coming off very fast at all.I see all these people that got their band the same time i id or even after and have lost a lot more weight than i can even think about losing.Im failing my band. I dont know what else to do.its been a long slow fight to get off what weight i have lost.but im still losing my battle just like i always have.

The one good thing that i have been able to do is get my blood sugar under control.

NOTHING TASTES BETTER THAN SKINNY:crying:

I don't know in whose book 55 pounds is failure. You're being way too hard on yourself.

I have to ask some obnoxious questions to help you out now, so hang in there. Are you journalling what you're eating? Are you exercising? And most importantly, are you at restriction? Can you eat more than 6 ounces at a sitting? Oh! And are you getting your 64oz of fluids and Vitamins?

When in doubt, when struggling, return to basics. Get out your golden rules and start following them to the letter. If doing this for two months, honest to goodness doing it, doesn't get that scale moving, I'd be shocked.

You cannot compare yourself with others - everybody is different.

55lb is a heap of weight. You should be really pleased with yourself.

How fast you lose depends on lots of things. How much you eat, what you eat, how much and what type of exercise you do, your own metabolism etc.

Something else to consider is how much you have to lose. Typically people that are bigger lose weight quicker initially than people who have a lower BMI.

I find it helps to look at percentages. I started at 74kg. I now weigh 54kg so I am down 20kg which is "ONLY" 44lb! LOL. But that 20kg actually represents 27% of my starting weight. That is HUGE.

So remember everyone is different . This is not a race it is for life.

I agree with the "back to basics" post. Go to your Dr. --get a fill, if needed. For me the fills have motivated me the most, when I am restricted I am in control. Good luck!!

55lbs is more than a lb per week. The Dr. told me to expect 1-2 lbs per week. If you loose 1/2 that again in the next year that's 80lbs! I do not know your wieght or bmi, but I started @ over 300lbs @ 5'7 and if I can only manage to loose 80lbs in 2 yrs I definatly will not look @ it as failure! Like the others said, back to the Dr and back to basics. slow and steady will win this race! It's your life and you are now over 50lbs lighter than last new year's.:willy_nilly: in my world, that's hardly failure!

Also, i have many friends that lose more the 2nd year due to greater restriction - NOT THAT 55 LBS IS A FAILURE! Stop kicking yourself and remember to be realistic!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
