I am so lost and overwhelmed!

Recommended Posts

Thanks Cathy. I hadn't seen anyone report on the Constipation and was embarrassed to bring it up but as this is all new to me I figured I'd better ask! My NUT has me on an every hour consumption - 4-6 ounces - but I can't finish what I'm supposed to yet before the hour is up I'm STARVING. At noon I get Soup and at 5 yogurt, 6 broth, and 7 a Protein Drink. Other than that it is just Water, milk, or gatorade. I thought the goal was to be fuller longer between meals but it feels like I'm training my body to be hungry every hour.

For now, it's a little tough. You still have swelling from the surgery which makes you tight, hard to take much in and it's maybe even harder still to continue to be satisfied by liquids since they don't stay in your pouch for long. I was on true liquids for 10 days and couldn't even have the Soup or yogurt for 10 very long days. That first can of cream of mushroom soup was like getting a steak it tasted and felt so good, LOL. Just remind yourself that this is a very short term and it's just going to get better.

I understand ur feeling of being lost and overwhelmed. I was banded on 11/30/09. I was given darvacet for pain and it was hopeless. I had to crush the pill and then take it. That totally made me gag. I called my Dr back and he gave me liquid loritab and antinausea meds. I would totally recommend some mild of magnesea for the Constipation. I let mine go tooo long and Oh Lord it was awful. I too could not bend and it seemed like everything that i needed was in the floor somehow. I found a lot of comfort in my recliner with a small couch pillow on my left side and a bed pillow in my lap. For about 10 days post op I needed to hold my port site to bend over slowly. I can say today 2 weeks post op I am bending fine. It seems to me the Gas pain is the killer. I took Gas X strips and many of them. I had trouble sleeping in the bed for about a week too. I put a heating pad on my left shoulder for a few days. When u do pass gas it will be heaven. What a crazy thing to say but you will understand. My Dr's rules on food were a strict liquid diet (I ate Jello, broth and popsicles. I was allowed to have full sugar popsicles and Jello. My Dr said that the sugar would help. I got very weak about 5 days in and he told me to have a Protein Shake to hold me over. I did the Bariatric Advantage shakes. I hated them preop but that day it was as good as a Frosty:) I hate to hear that you are feeling hungry I guess I was lucky that I didn't feel any hunger at all. Bless ur heart I hope you get to feeling better soon. Don't hesitate to call your Dr. I also found some great eating ideas on the Lapband website and the Realize site is very helpful also. i am learning that everyone has a different experience with their bands. there are also phone numbers on both wesites and they have 24 hr assistance. It will get better. Keep your chin up its not as easy as people make it sound especially those who aren't banded yet. Good luck sweetie I will be praying for you. Once we get past the hard part life is going to be great.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
