I agree Jachut. At times I'm jealous that people with a BMI of 35 have the surgery because they have a better head start lol But still, for me...at 5'4" : 205 or 265? 205 is a 35.2 bmi...and my 265 was 46.5, sorry but in my book both are way too high and pretty daunting when it comes to losing weight. That and there are a lot of people with 35 as a BMI that are realllllllly bad yo-yo dieters, so how can you feel upset with them getting the surgery when it's been proven that they have a hard time keeping it off.... Wow, I guess I have strong feelings on it lol

I started with a BMI of 39.

The first 9 months were effortless, weight just fell away. I had a perfect fill were I could eat and drink anything, just lower quantities.

Months 9-11, I stabilized around 26.5 BMI. I had to make a choice, do I get another fill or do something else? I was so happy with my fill and knew it was the right amount for long term maintenance, and have read so many posts about the bad experiences of people that probably are too tight, that I decided to try working out.

Now after 4 months of working out, my BMI is 24.5. My fat content is lower than that implies because I have gained substantial muscle mass (I'm a guy, just to be clear). I still eat and drink anything I want, although I do enjoy making healthier choices. I NEVER feel like I am dieting or skipping anything.

More importantly, my health is the best it's ever been. Blood work, blood pressure, liver function, pulse, heart rate, etc. are all well in range for a healthy 20yo person half my age. I sleep 2-3 less hours per night but have more energy all day.

The shape of my body is also much better even ignoring the weight loss. Posture is much better, lower back pain is gone, shoulder to waist ratio, clearly visible muscles in arms and legs, etc. People who haven't seen me in months literally stop and stare open mouthed. I occasionally get hit on in grocery stores and coffee shops. By women who are even cute! It's a good feeling. :)

None of this would have happened without excercise. I could have gotten the tighter fill and still lost the weight, but I think I would have been miserable and would have been thin but still soft and kinda flabby.

Eating less will make you thin, but it won't make you fit.

I had to start in the privacy of my own home with a Wii Fit and work my way up from there, and it was totally worth it. Now I'm just hoping my skin catches up with me, I totally understand the half-size too big comment.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
