I have had the stomach flu two days and can not keep anything down. I am starting to get alittle dehydrated and the Urgent Care doctor said to drink some seven up to settle my stomach and he knows I have the band. Anyone drink carbination with the band when they were sick? All I want right now is some 7up to settle my stomach. Gatorade, Water, pedilite, and apple juice all keep coming back up. No food either.

I actually had a stomach bug last wednesday...AND the wednesday before. I did not vomit (thank god!)...BUT i sure as hell thought i was going to....couldn't put ANYTHING in my stomach...not even Water. As soon as i did, my stomach started flipping and bubbling...

If you can't keep even Water down, you need to call your surgeon to see what HE/SHE recommends. Because of dehydration, you really might need to be hospitalized for a day and get IV fluids....

I would not try anything carbonated! Nevermind the pain it would probably cause, but the bubbles can actually stretch your pouch...

GOODLUCK! Feel better and keep us updated please...

First, you need something for the nausea. Call your doctor. Second, do not drink the seven-7. Third, Try to get as much rest as you can. Fourth, see if you can sip the liquid from Chicken/Noodle Soup. Fifth, try to sip some warm tea also. Not coffee.Sisth, you may need some liquid antibotics or a nice shot. Keep us informed. Hope you're better soon.

i agree call your surgeon as an alternative you can pick up some pedialyte in the baby food section. I keep apple flavored on hand just in case

Let it go "flat" and it will help. I did that with gingerale when I had the stomach bug. As long as the bubbles are dead it will be okay

OK, long time ago and long story, but I got alcohol poisoning in college, called the poison control hotline and they said to sip on the juice from a can of peaches or pears (packed in 100% juice, not syrup). After three days of vomiting non-stop it's the only thing that helped the nausea subside. It's not carbonated either, might be worth a try...

Sounds like a story worth telling if you ask me!

To the OP - I have heard others say that as long as the soda is flat, it's not a problem. Also, the ginerale (not sure why they suggested 7-up) should be room temperature, not cold. Feel better soon!

Why 7up? I can understand ginger ale because ginger soothes the stomach, but 7up hasn't got anything in it that's good for your stomach that I know of. All it is is sugar and Water. Try some ginger tea or even just boiled ginger water. Boiled ginger water is a little harsh on the tongue though.

Just use some common sense. I assuming since you are sick, your not going to gulp down 16 ounces. If you sip it and go slow your not going to expand your pouch as so many here fear.

But it does have that effect. NASA even commissioned a study on it, I use ginger for sea sickness, but ginger ale doesn't have enough ginger in it to be of any real value, but it seems pretty reasonable that clear beverages are more easily tolerated by those who are sick with things like the flu.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
