Jenna I can truly relate I lost my very best friend Max( bulldog/chow mix) in march 2001. He was 10 years old. I loved him truly and he loved me through everything I went through. I found out I had Lupus and was so sick at times I could only go in the backyard and sit down to play with him. He just sat right next to me and laid his head on my lap as to say it's okay I am just glad to see you. He died laying in my arms and I will never forget him. Why can't people love like animals, I will never know. Jeter looks like he was a lot of fun an love. You will always have him in your heart, there they never die.

BIg HUGS!!!!!!

I am very sorry to hear about your loss. Our pets become much more than "pets". They become part of us. I feel very sad for you and I can only imagine how hard it would be to say goodbye to my dog (Landry). It depresses me to just think about it.

I don't like saying sorry for your loss - but rather I'm happy Jeter gave you such love, loyalty, and happiness for as long as he could and that you knew of what such love could bring in this lifetime because of Jeter :)

I've been there. I'm sorry for your loss, and it is a loss. He is in doggy heaven now, running and playing with all the others, and some of our human angels are handing out treats like crazy! Let the angels you know comfort you, too. Hugs, Cindy

I am overwhelmed at the response here. Thank you so much for your posts and your pm's.

It has been almost a week now. It hurts a little less with every day and the lump in my throat gets smaller as the days go by. Sometimes I feel like I am being silly for hurting so bad (big bad cop reduced to crying puffy eyed mess). I miss him so much. And the mere thought of knowing that while I would be crying he would normally be right at my side trying to cheer me up. Matter of fact, I think he is in a way.

Our other greyhound hasn't eaten in almost 3 days now. I am extremly worried about him. He lies on Jeter's old bed and cries and whines very softly at night. It is just heart wrenching! So for now, I have been busy with consoling the other hound.

My son has taken this remarkably well. He cried a lot the first day. I hear him talking to his friends on the phone about him. They are helping him. He doesn't really talk to me much about it. Probably because he knows I would start crying again. He hides it from me a bit. Maybe being protective of me, I don't know.

My husband (the Mr. Clean bald head goatee guy) was reduced with me to a blubbering mess the entire day. I was shocked and at the same time, strangely relieved at his show of emotion. Such a strong looking man and such emotion within. Poor guy, I flipped out on him when he went to use Jeter's bowl to feed another dog. I realize it was wrong of me to flip like that, but I didn't want anyone using it.

Yes, Christina, thank you for noticing the human like face. EXACTLY! It was eerie at times with his qualities.

I know in my heart that I did the right thing and I know he is happier now. I still hope that he will visit me again someday, whether in my dreams or another dog. I will definitely know him if he did.

I took the advice of Cindy and we made an 8X10 picture with a beautiful frame and engraving of "Jeter, Forever in Our Hearts" on it. I hung his collar on the corner of it. It sits on the TV. I also put his picture on my desktop of the computer. I love being able to see his eyes.

Thank you everyone again for all the love and support. It truly does mean very much to me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
