Anyone Pre-med before dental procedures?

Recommended Posts

So I was wondering if anyone has to pre-med before dental procedures? I had open heart surgery in 2001 and had my lapband surgery on Oct. 23rd, 2009. I haven't been to the dentist yet but will be soon. I have to take 4, 500mg capsules an hour before the procedure. Many people have said not to take all of your pills at the same time. To wait for an hour or so between pills. However that's not possible for me. I have to take the 500mgs an hour before surgery to prevent a blood infection from going to my heart. Can anyone enlighten me on this issue. Can I take 4 pills, one after the other? I don't really want to open them and take them that way. They taste really nasty.

I can't see that taking them all at the same time would be a problem. Just make sure you swallow them with plenty of Water.< /p>

I take pre-meds also, I just took a pill and waited a couple of minutes then took an other one. Did not have any issues but you might want to ask your lap band doc about it.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
