Wondering if anyone has had or is having the same problem I am. I had my surgery on 11/3 and did extremely well postop.

Yesterday, keeping in mind I'm almost 6 weeks postop, I was pulling a book out of a box of books on a shelf over my head and tilted the box a bit too far. The whole thing did a gradual slide off the shelf into my arms causing me to take on about 50 pounds. I felt the stress in my port area as the muscles bunched and could do little more than turn with the box in my arms and drop it onto the roller table.

Since then though, the soreness around my port area has been getting worse. Today, any movement involving those muscles is a bit painful...sitting, standing, lifting particularly. Bending forward...forget it.

I think the area may be just a bit inflamed but am wondering if there's a way to deal with this. It's not an emergency so I don't want to bother my doc or staff over the weekend and will call them on Monday, but until then...any ideas are welcome for how to deal with what is most likely just inflammation.

.

HI - actually it is good to see this post because i am having kind of the same issues.. i was banded on November 17th - pretty uneventful - and in all honesty i probably have been doing more then i should - but i have no choice unfortunately - but today my port ha been pinching - especially if i bend forward , or sit forward to much - i just feels like a deep internal pinching -- again not earth shattering and i can wait to call my sx on Monday and talk to the staff. Not sure if this is a factor - but i am due for my wonderful monthly friend - but i do not see how this would affect anything.

More then likely you just pulled some muscles in that area. I would suggest putting ice on it for the first 24 hours. Every hour 20 minutes on. Take it easy and try not to lift anything or use those muscles in your stomach as little as you possibly can. And definately call your doctor if the pain gets worse. But for sure call them on Monday. Good luck to you.

What you are experiencing more then likely is the stitches that hold your port in place, pulling. This is a normal thing and does happen. I would suggest if you can possibly lighten up your activity for a few days to see if the pinching goes away, otherwise your stitches could break which could or could not make your port rotate. Then you would have to go through the surgery again. Sometimes it's better to take it easy even if you feel you have no choice. If the pinching gets worse I would call your doctor.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
