How long did you take off work?

Recommended Posts

If you have a hernia repair it may take longer. It is not that you don't feel like going to work, it is that you don't have the energy if you are on a liquid or soft diet. At least that was my case.

The hernia repair does make it a little more difficult.

I had surgery 12/9 and will be going back to work tomorrow, 12/14,but only for 1/2 days this week. I had a major hital hernia so still not really strong. I probably could stay all day but I have the vacation time so I am taking it. My surgeon told me that everyone is different and that I would know when it was right for me. My mom took 3 days off and stayed with me the day of surgery and left Friday afternoon 2 days after. I am getting around and doing for myself just fine, just get tired really easy. Hope this helps!

Boy I took at least two weeks off, I was drained and sore, I may have taken a bit more (can't remember now)but I had issues, I had an infection in my breast bone and that caused a whole bunch of issues and pain.

Honestly, my job allowed for a long time off and I took what they allowed, it was wonderful as I was able to get myself mentally ready for my return to work and I needed it - but that is just me.

I was banded on 12/9 and was planning on going back on 12/14, but, my doctor won't release me until I see him on 12/16. I am PERFECTLY capable of going back, but, if I DO go back and something were to happen, I'm afraid insurance would deny paying for anything since I went back to work against medical advice. I'm just going to work from home.

Everyone is different. I "heal well" according to my urologist, but, others may not. I would say a week should be perfect. Even if you're not in any pain and WANT to go back, at least being at home will give you time to re-learn how to eat!

I'm still out. Had my surgery on the 12th of November. I don't go back till December 28th. But I'm a CNA in a hospital so my job requires a lot of bending, stretching, lifting etc. I was nervous after 2 weeks when I went back to my doctor because I was not ready at that time. I feel good now but I'm glad I have another 2 weeks to relax and get completely healed.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
