Is this normal???

Recommended Posts

Ok so I had my surgery on tuesday (12/8) I was fine in the hospital but I got home and was in a crap load of pain!!!! I know its a lot of gas pain but I thought it was going away, but its 4 days later and im still in the same ammount of pain! Most people feel better in 1 or 2 but not me. I feel so much pressure in my stomach, right in the middle and it hurts really bad when I stand up to walk. I can barley take in my fluids because my stomach hurts so much and when I do put fluids into it, it hurts even more. can someone tell me if this is normal? and if im supposed to be in the same pain I was in when I got home from the hospital??:rolleyes2:

I was in the same boat. I had bad pain for week and a half. I took the two pain meds they prescribed and it helped but I was still a mess. It does get better... I felt the pain get less and less each day and by the 2 - 3 week mark I felt almost human again.

Hang in there!

Yes, it's pretty normal. I was in that much pain (had the band a year ago too! 12/8!) and I couldn't barely walk! Aww it was awful! They had me on good pain meds though. Be wary if you are on hydro (liquid) or anything though...constipation was horrible.

I was in lots of pain for about a week and a half.

My surgery date was 12/8/09 also and I still have this gas pain as well, but I am coping. It hurts worse when I lie down and also if I stay in the same sitting position for very long. I must say that, while it hurts a LOT to get going, walking really helps relieve it. Get up and move around, don't stay in the same position long and allow it to "collect" forming a huge painful gas bubble.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
