Very unhappy with local support group and follow up care from Lap Band Company

Recommended Posts

Okay, the main reason I went with the group I did, was because they did lap band and because they took my insurance.

After care has been atrocious and I should have realized I was going to have problems because they kept screwing up my billing.

It's taken 5 fills to get to enough restriction and I have spent the last 6 months frustrated. Last fill was the final straw, the tech said, "Oh, I haven't been given you much in the way of a fill because we thought you weren't eating enough protein".

Well, I really think the real reason is to get more money out of my insurance company.

Oh, and when I went to support group and whined about not losing weight, they told me to a) get an unfill, :rolleyes2: see the dietcian, which all involves getting more money out of me.

So I'm working with a different company right now, which doesn't charge for personal aftercare.

Kathleen,

Sadly there are doctors/clinics just out for the money and their decisions will be made based on how they can get the most out of the insurance companies. One can only speculate as to whether that's the rationale yours operated under, but I'd be a little concerned if my doc said they weren't giving fills as often because they 'thought' I wasn't eating enough Protein.< /p>

Good for you for being proactive and taking charge and responsibility for your own care. Good luck with your new doc!

Definitely new doc time. No one says you have to continue with the same for after care and hopefully you can find one that takes your insurance and cares about your progress. I am so fortunate to have a great team working with me and helping me finish my journey. Good Luck!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
