To wait or get unfilled...

Recommended Posts

I was filled 3 days ago. I can drink without any problems. But as soon as I eat soid foods, I begin to oversalivate, get a pain in my chest and then must vomit. Usually several times. Should I get unfilled or wait and remain on liquid?

If it were me, I would get some taken out, because I do NOT like having my band tight. If you decide to wait it out a little more, then go from liquids to mushies. If even the mushies give you problems, get some taken out. If the mushies are ok, then just try to progress to solids after a couple days of mushies. If after that you are still unable to eat solids, you should get an unfill.

Call your surgeon asap and I would think you need a slight unfill. Are you chewing really well? What are you eating in the way of solids. You should not be sliming or vomitting. That is not how the band should be working for you. Good Luck and call the doc.

You are definitely to tight. I had the some problems about 2 weeks ago and I had to go in to get unfilled. When I went they remove all of the saline because I had been vomiting to long and stoma became very irritated and was having acid reflux really bad. They told me that if you go to long like this it will damage the band from the constant throwing-up. I have been unfilled for 2 weeks now. I go back on Dec. 15 for a fill. It better to remove some of the Fluid, than to cause yourself any harm or damge your band. Good luck and keep us posted.

Thank you everyone for your reply. I ended up waiting 2 weeks from the fill, and then yesterday went and had .5cc removed. All of a sudden I felt tremendously better! I was able to eat almost immediately and everything stayed down! Yeah! I must have been too tight. Thanks for your help. Interesting though...some of those days I could eat ok...then others I was throwing up a lot. The best time of the day for me to eat is at noon time. I can eat without any problems. The morning and evening are difficult for me. Especially dinner time. An average meal is Protein (chicken, turkey or pork...very moist) and vegetables. Still having some problems with this. Any ideas as to why the evening is difficult? B)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
