I'm 26 years old and I have been battling my weight for pretty much my entire life and I have spent most of my adult life as obese. As of now I am not 100% sold on the surgery but I will attend the seminar on January 12, 2010. I'm worried about post-op complications and rigid diet restrictions. It's hard to loose weight and nearly impossible to keep it off with traditional diets. I don't know if what I said made sense exactly but it seems overwhelming especially having not been successful before. I'm a little familiar with the surgery because I work in a hospital that performs the procedure. I'm just not sure it's the right choice for me but there's no way to know without educating myself. My husband doesn't understand what I go through because he loves me unconditionally. He will go to the seminar with me but doesn't think I would even qualify for the surgery. So far he is the only person I mentioned the surgery to.

Welcome Mel Mel :w00t:,

I was just banded on the 25th of November, it so far is going good. I am still hungry at this point (because I haven't been filled yet), but I am sticking to my 2oz. of Protein and 1oz of fruit. It's not easy and it is work, but I have lost 30 lbs so far ( including the pre-op diet) I feel better every day.

Like you I have been big my whole life, I have always been on diets only to gain it all back plus some.:rolleyes2:

Everyone is different and some people don't want to do the work or they assume it's a quick fix, read, read, read. I asked alot of questions and I went to a couple of support meetings to get the info I needed. Good luck, I hope this helped.:w00t:

I know it won't be easy and it's not a quick fix. I'm just not sure if surgery is the correct option for me. I've been checking out LAP-BAND®.com and browsing through this site for information. I know two people from work who have had the procedure but I'm not sure if I'm ready to let others now how seriously I'm considering this, especially at work.

I've been on popular diets. On weight watchers I slacked too much. On Jenny I got too tired of the foods. I even had a personal trainer.

I've been to a seminar held by the physician I'd go to. He does the procedure at two hospitals, one of which I work at. I'm familiar with the procedure and immediate post-op care first hand. It's everything before and everything after. Especially after I'm worried about.

I'm going to the seminar to get more information on a patient level, not nursing level and hopefully meet people who have had the surgery. Most likely I will book my consultation there and talk to the Doctor one on one about my fears and really find out if I'm a good candidate.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
