Went to the Urgent Care for Tonsillitis and....

Recommended Posts

was annoyed when the doctor refused to give me liquid penicillin. I know it exists. My kids take the liquid form when they are sick. I explained to the doctor that I had had the lapband procedure done and that if the pill was large, that I couldnt take it. He assured me that the pill was "medium" sized, no larger than an aspirin and that if I found the pill to be too large, to cut it up. When I got my prescription, I looked at the pills and they were pretty large. I had to cut them into quarters to swallow them......and it sucks that I had to swallow FOUR times as many pills with an extremely sore throat. I just wish that the doctor had respected my request and my reasoning. Next time, I am not going to give in. I am going to fight for what I want. (You have to understand, I am VERY non-confrontational and that is why I gave in so easily.....gotta work on that!) Anyone else every had a doctor or other professional give you a hard time in regards to a special request because of the band?

Wonder why he didn't just give you a shot? That would have been so much easier.

Sorry your dr. was being a ninny. He certainly could have given you liquid. Your pharmacist probably could have made it a liquid even with the Rx from the dr. saying pills. Some pharmacists break them down and make their own liquids.

Funny you should post this today. I went to my pcp for a check up since surgery (banded the 3rd) and she prescribed me some vicodin for some pain I am having. I asked that she give me the liquid form and she said there wasn't such a thing. I knew there was. So I asked if she was sure. She said she was. I finally asked her if she would note on the RX that I wanted liquid if it was available. She did....and I got my liquid medication!! Sorry that some docs are know it alls. maybe my appraoch might work for others??

Take care of yourself!! Feel better soon.

Ask your doctor to request liquid form on the precription if it's available. That simple. Oh, don't back to the Urgent Care...find another one if possible, Hope your throat is better now.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
