I am getting banded tomorrow ! It should be an interesting journey - one that I'm both nervous and excited about. Anyone have any suggestions for me on the day of surgery ? what to expect, pain wise, etc..

Well, I had my surgery yesterday. I only had 3 hrs sleep the night before because I worked afternoons so needless to say I was really tired. Dr. Benavides pre-op team made me really comfortable and then the anesthesiologist gave me some "happy medicine" to help me relax and the next thing I remember I was waking up. I thought I had dosed off and I said "I guess we are ready to have surgery now ? " and the nurses all laughed and said "no , you are all done".. Was I ever surprised.

I had a little pain mostly where the port was so they have me a shot of demoral and 15 mins later a shot of morphine. They said I was supposed to force myself to walk for 5 mins every hour but it was hard to do that because I needed sleep... but I would walk around as much as possible.

I got up this morning (2nd day) and I'm still a little sore but I don't want to take any of the strond presciption meds he gave me because it will just make me sleep for 4 hrs each time. So I think I will use some of that liquid tylonol I bought. I just had my first chocolate shake (6oz) and could barely finish it. This seems weird.

Well, that's all for now... I hope things get better in the next few days... I hate being this immobile.

Well, it's been 4 weeks as of yesterday since surgery and I've lost 26 lbs since surgery and 10 lbs pre-op diet for a total of 36 lbs in 6 weeks.. I slowed down to a good rate last week with a loss of 3 lbs and I started swimming last night and plan to swim at least 4-5 times a week for 30-40 mins. So far so good ! I havn't had a fill yet but I'm due to see them this Friday to see if I need one. What do you guys think ? How do you know if u need a fill ? I'm still feeling full after eating a small amount so I think that's ok..

Excellent start to your goal!

Always happy to see a positive start...

As for "how do you know" you need a fill, I went with the "if I'm losing comfortably" i won't get another fill program.

I was only filled TWO times and I have the largest band they can possibly install, why you ask??? Because I'm losing weight at a good rate while ALSO maintaining my ability to eat stuff without being tightened to the point I PB...

You do whats best for you, in the end you'll adjust your fills by the rate your losing.

Your dr. will push you in a healthy direction!

Good Luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
