3 days banded and hungry!?!!!

Recommended Posts

well, the bloating/gas has deminished and i guess i am now able to feel what's happening in the ole' gut -- and i was surprised to find my stomach GROWLING -- twice today!

i just finished my second Protein Shake of the day (muscle milk in the AM and Syntrax matrix chocolate (bleh!) just now... and i am still hungry.

is this normal?

is this in my head?

i was contemplating having a V8 or something but i don't know if i'm allowed.

any suggestions would be appreciated!

In my opinion you are hungry a little sooner then most but definitely not abnormal.

You will feel less hungry after you get some restriction. With each fill it will get a little better.

I really loved the vanilla flavored Matrix Protein Powder, The chocolate not so much. My favorite thing to do with the powder is put it in the blender with a little non-fat milk, ice and a banana to make a smoothie with it. You can also add it to oatmeal later on for that extra Protein boost.

Hang in there, better days are coming your way.

Donna

I don't think that it's at all abnormal to be hungry only three days out of surgery. I sure was! It's tough but try to hang in there and follow your surgeon's and diaticians directions no matter how hungry you get. You don't want to risk any damage to your stomach. It's been three weeks today since my surgery and the hunger does get less. I have no restriction at this point the surgeon told me only a few days ago. I don't know if you get a little used to the hunger to a degree or what. I'll admit it does get a little easier once you get past the all liquid stage and into the pureed foods. I am eating only one half cup a meal since I was banded.

It's hard but hang tough! It'll be so worth it and remember this Banster Hell is only a very short time in your life and you'll reap so much as the weight comes off.

My surgery was yesterday and I am already hungry. I think it's more of a emotional hunger than real hunger though.

thanks all for the support!!!

yeah, it's probably a little of both (emotional and real hunger!) but i talked to the dietitian at my surgeon's office today. she said to up the Protein Shakes from 3 to 4 if needed, to make sure i'm getting enough Water and, believe it or not, CARBS! i've had a constant headache since i came home on tuesday and she said adding carbs from non-fat milk, etc will help.

she said if all else fails, i can even ease into thicker Soups -- like pea or Tomato Soup. No chunks, just something with a heartier consistency and a little Fiber.

i've never been so thrilled to have soup!!!!

she said no V8 by the way -- i didn't ask her why (i was too happy about the soup!) maybe the acid and sodium?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
