Recommended Posts

I just had my surgery yesterday 12-9-09 & I have the worst pain in my chest & my left shoulder! They explained that it is gas pains but I think it might hurt worse than the actual incision sights...Did anyone else have this pain that bad & how long did it take to diminish????

Yes it's normal. Try some GasX strips. That should help with the pain. Also a heating pad might help. It should go away in a day or 2.

My husband is at the store going to get me some now!! I had my surgery yesterday as well and the gas is getting to me badly! Far worse then the incisions (I can't feel those since I have a little pump thing putting meds to them continually).

The Gas-X definitely helps, but I found that walking as much as I could helped things, er, move a little more quickly

I was banded on the 25th of Novenber, and like you I had the worse gas pains. I tried the gas x and I walked, walked, walked. Nothing helped, it finally went away around the 4th day. I also had a hernia repaired while the doc was in there, so that didn't help any. I slept in the recliner for 3 nights because it felt like I couldn't breath. I hope your feeling better by now, time was the only thing that helped. Oh and pain pills!:rolleyes2:

The gas pains you describe are mostly the result of the gas they pump into your abdomen during surgery. Moving around is the #1 thing to help. Walk through the house waving your arms over your head. If you have a rocking chair, sit in it and rock. Take a short walk if you can. And you can put a heating pad over your shoulder (just don't put it on your incisions) to help, too!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
