Recommended Posts

If drinks go through the band I dont understand why we cant drink right up untill the time we eat. I understand waiting 30-60 min after but why before?

I drink pretty much up to the time I eat also and it doesn't seem to matter. I think the drinking during and after is the really important part. I don't drink anything for at least an hour after I eat and it seems to be working pretty well.

This was aked before and we never came up with an answer. However something came up in a conversation with a friend recently that may be the reason. She asked if I drink with meals(she doesn't know I am banded) and then went on to say that her husband never drinks with meals, he stops drinking 20 - 30 min before etc. Does this sound familiar? Apparently he was brought up believing that drinking with meals is bad as it interferes with the digestion.

I decided to look it up on the net and yes there seems to be quite a lot of theories that say drinking with meals affects the digestive process as it dilutes the stomach acids and it can lead to various problems such as heartburn etc. Of course there are plenty of experts that disagree but I am thinking that this is probably where the rule has its roots.

Honestly I do the same thing, I mean I totally agree with you, it's liquid - it goes straight thru and waiting those 20-30 minutes will just make you dehydrated anyway, the more important thing is waiting after.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
