I am in so much pain the day after surgery. They kept me over night and I really didnt feel anything because I was on morphine. Now it has went down hill. I am not sure if it is gas pains, hunger pains or incision pain. I just know it is PAIN. I pray tomorrow is better.

Hang in there. I got mine done on the 4th and had pretty bad gas pains the 2nd day (walking around the house did help some). Each day after though, I'm definitely feeling better and better.

Did your doctor order you some take-home pain meds? If so, take them and try to walk around the house as much as possible. If he didn't, liquid tylenol will help some and a heating pad. Make sure you get your liquids, esp. Water & Protein. It will get better everyday, I promise.

It's probably the gas. Where is it hurting?

Walk every chance you get, even if it's only for 5 minutes. But do it once every hour or two.

I know what you mean about not knowing what is causing the pain. I was banded on 11/20 and for about 5 days I had definite gas pains, but didn't know it! Walking helped me so much!

sariel - you and i are bandster twins... i also got my band on 12/7 and am just finally starting to feel a little better. last night (first night home) i was in excruciating pain - my entire torso was throbbing... i guess it was the gas.

i walked around the house as much as possible, took 1 chewable gas-x (though who knows if that did anything because the gas was not in my intestines), rocked in a rocking chair, used a heating pad on my back and then did considerable amounts of whining. I passed some gas last night (TMI - sorry) and feel a little better today.

everyone (including the doctors) say keep moving - i know that's so hard when you just want to curl up and cry... but i do think that helped.

see you around the boards!

Hang in there...it will get better. I'm surprised your doc didn't send you home with pain meds. Mine prescribed Lorpan or some such (never took it so I don't remember what the label said), but Liquid tylenol should help also.

As everyone else stated. Walk around as much as possible. Use a nice fluffy pillow to hold on your tummy and use a heating pad. If your doctor sent home pain pills be sure to use them. You will feel better in a couple of days. The pain gets easier everyday. Congrats and hope you feel better soon.

Pain comes in different forms post-op.

1. Gas pain....you can have gas in your stomach/intestines. Gas-X strips will take care of that.

2. Gas pain from the gas the doc pumped into your abdomen to give him room to work in....move around as much as you feel able. When you sit, sit in a rocking chair and rock, even. If it hurts in your left shoulder. put a heating pad on it.

3. Pain where your port is (that's where the largest incision is) ....that's what your pain meds are for. They anchor the port to muscle and that has to heal.

My first 3 days weren't fun. I needed the pain meds, and when I didn't get them in time, I felt awfully sore. If you weren't prescribed pain meds, then call DR and request them. I was only given tylenol w/codeine, but other folks were given stronger meds to take home. I did have the morphine drip in hospital (thank God)

My DR also prescribed 4 days of sleeping pills(they gave them to me in hospital). That really helped, at least it didn't hurt when I was sleeping. lol

Heating pad and walking, as previous posters said.

.....and don't do too much. Avoid lifting and housework.

Feel better...the surgery is over and thin times ahead!

I know how you feel! I had surgery yesterday morning, (12/8) I did stay one night and I was on the morphine drip and I felt really good in the hospital. As soon as I got home tho it was a different story. I am in so much freaking pain!!! It feels like every move I make my stomach is going to split open. My doc gave me some liquid vicodin to take bu it doesnt seem to be working and on top of that I have a really bad pain in my right shoulder. I dont know what to do, I have been walking around and everything, it even hurts to breathe. someone helppp

I have pain meds but my dumb behind wasnt taking them as I should. It has gotten a lil better and the gas is rumbling in my tummy. I really havent felt like being on the computer much due to the gas and pain. Once the meds wore off, I woke up. So here I am waiting on the next dose to hit me. Thanks for all the advice, it has really helped.

Try using a heating pad. You can also use GasX strips to help get rid of that gas in your shoulder. It will get better even though right now it might not seem that way. If the vicodin isn't working then you probably should call your doctor and ask them if they can give you something else for the pain. Most of the pain is probably from gas though. Try the GasX strips first.

Thanks for posting this!! I was banded yesterday 12/9 and am in horrible pain. I think it's gas. It hurts really bad, like BADDDD. I can't get away from the pain. Sometimes if I lean to the right a bit I get relief. I am scared to let gas out when I feel it coming because of the lovely loose stools (TMI I KNOW) because of all the liquids only so I get up and go to the bathroom and by then the urge to release gas is gone. It's making me crazyyy!

We'll get through it. I heard walking is the key, so I'll walk to the moon if i have to. Feel better soon.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
