If I do a cleanse, do I have to sit on the potty all day? LOL

Seriously, I've never done a complete cleanse except for pre-ops. Do you do them regularly and what does your doctor say about them?

I do a version of the 'Master Cleanse'. A version because if I try to drink Epsom salts, I'll barf...and that's not good for the band.

I mix maple Syrup and lemon juice in equal parts and then put 3 Tbs of that mixture into an 8 oz glass of Water. Sometimes it's cold water...sometimes hot. I drink five 8 oz glasses through the day...one about every 3 hours. It tastes a bit like a very diluted lemonade. If you can stand it, a sprinkling of cayenne pepper supposedly helps you burn fat (due to capsaicin) for a longer period of time, but it irritates my throat so I don't bother with it.

Boy did it ever clean me out and, surprisingly of all, I wasn't hungry and my blood sugar levels stayed stable...which I think is what the maple syrup does. I felt really good and had amazing energy for the 3 days I went on it.

Hmmm...maybe I'll do another one.

Lolly,

I try to do a cleanse for 3 days every month. My doc doesn't have a problem with them at all. I haven't done one since my surgery on 11/3 so maybe I'll start one tomorrow. I always feel better after I do. More energy...not so sluggish.

Yes, the cleanse I do means just the lemon mixture 5x a day although I can drink as much Water as I want...just plain Water, no crystal lite.

Some people find it difficult and feel like they're starving. I never get hungry so it's not an issue for me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
