Diet Coke . . .

Recommended Posts

Haven't had one since the beginning of May - banded at end of May. Do any of you still indulge in this cool, refreshing treat? I know we are not supposed to because of bubbles, but I have a very successful friend who does. Just curious (and probably looking for an excuse to have a cool, crisp, glass with ice).

I've only been off soda for 3 1/2 weeks, and i took a small sip of my friends diet coke. it was so sweet i almost gagged. it's killed any desire i have for a diet cola. my dr. never really gave me instructions on whether i could have soda or not, i just decided not to.

I hate the aftertaste of diet coke, am not really a soft drink drinker at all. But on the odd occasion I have, its too bubbly, I cant drink very much of it at all, maybe 1/4 of a can.

Other carbonated drinks such as champagne or the odd gin and tonic are fine for me, they're nowhere near as bubbly.

My doc says after the first year of being banded soda is OK, so I qualify. I used to have an 8 can a day habit and getting off it was hard. I tried some a few weeks ago and the carbonation about did me in so I won't be trying that for awhile!!!!

Ask your docs what their thoughts are and then decide. It just may make your cravings go wild if you try it!!!!

I was addicted to Diet Dr. Pepper before I had surgery in May. I haven't had one since and, frankly, I don't miss it. I am, however, addicted to Water with Crystal Light.

I do occasionally drink champagne, particularly mimosas for brunch. But I had a beer when I was out of the country recently -- I think in Mexico -- and I thought I was going to die that night. The carbonation was horrible. I won't be doing that again.

I haven't had any soda since I was banded over a year ago. I am too afraid of my band slipping. Someone once told me that the carbonation could make the band slip. I usually don't grave soda, but every once in a while it just sounds so good.

I too am addicted to Water with Crystal Light. I have a 1 Ltr water with 1 on the go size cherry pomegranate, it tastes better to me diluted. My fiance calls it my crack. I guess it's better to be addicted to water with flavor then soda.

Sorry... I meant I haven't had one since surgery in February '09. Not sure why I typed May.

I did have a beer once when I was out of the country. Never again. My stomach went crazy.

Up until a couple of weeks ago, I had not had a soft drink since surgery. I tried one at the movie theater a few weeks ago and it burned my throat so bad. I too was addicted presurgery. I mean addicted. I probably drank 5, 2 liter dt mt dews a week. If I can gice them up, anyone can.

I completely understand your "want". I was ADDICTED to diet pop of any kind, my poison of choice was Diet Mountain Dew. I started my pre-op diet while on vacation in Daytona Beach on August 2, 2009. I am proud to say that I have not had a pop since. I did take a drink of my husbands Diet Coke and about spit it out! It was disgusting to me and as one of the other posters said, it was so sickening sweet and syrupy that I couldn't stand it. I am getting really tired though of Crystal light, but it's all worth it.

Have you tried the Special K20 Protein Water? It's a good alternative to Crystal Lite--I really like it, plus a serving has 5 grams of Protein.< /p>

I usually pour it over ice and let it sit for a few minutes before I drink it. I have had no problems and drink it every once in a while but I just dont really have the taste for it any longer... Its just not as good as it used to be!

I still drink Diet Coke. Somedays I have one and other days none at all. The key for me is letting it go flat first. Sounds gross, but it's not too bad.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
