For all of you eating mushies right now....

Recommended Posts

I really would like to know what you are all blending up. Can you share your first foods and what you are blending up please! Also how long does your doc have you on mushies? I am in the mushie phase and could use some help.

Thank you

I am also at that stage. I was just at my first checkup since my surgery only yesterday. The nutrisionist told me that I can blend tuna that has been packed in Water or canned chicken breast and mix it with a little light mayo. Also, she said that I could blend very well stew, potato Soup, bean with bacon Soup or chili. Also mashed potatoes but not too stiff. You can have oatmeal (I use Quaker Weight Control oatmeal). Also, grits and cream of wheat. I like to put a packet of Equal in the cooked cereals. I know some don't recommend artificial sweetners but I have never felt that for me personally that they make me hungrier or crave sweets even more. If anything I'd say it satisfies my need for something sweet when on occasion I want something a little sweet.

Hope this helped to give you some more ideas.

I'm not actually blending anything. It just sounds gross to me to eat liquified meat.

I eat yogurt, thick Soups, low fat cottage cheese, hummus, thick Protein drinks, etc.

Blended meat might not sound good but when it's the first food you have had in a month it is heaven! Plus I am trying to keep my Protein intake high!

No blending here!

My mushies include cheeses (cottage, soft, ricotta), mashed potatoes, eggs (any style), hummus, cream of wheat, oatmeal, etc. No meats, fruits, or veggies. I am on mushies for 1 week.

For Breakfast, I had a poached egg over cheese grits (1/2 c.) For lunch, I had egg salad and some dill havarti (yummo).

dinner is going to be ricotta, parm, and an egg mixed together. Spread in a 9x9 pan, covered with spaghetti sauce and mozz and baked.

I'm also planning on having some hummus with a bit of feta mixed up in it. Oh, and deviled eggs.< /p>

One of my other favs is cream of wheat pudding:

3 Tbsp Cream Of Wheat

1 cup skim milk

1 egg

1 packet Splenda or 2 T. of sf pudding mix (the dry stuff, not made!)

1 tsp vanilla extract

1. Spray small saucepan with cooking spray, add milk and heat until just about boiling. Be careful as it will burn and stick to the bottom of the pan.

2. Add cream of wheat and stir with a whisk for about 2 minutes.

3. In a small separate bowl combine egg, vanilla, and splenda.

4. Stirring rapidly to avoid "scrambled egg effect," add the egg mixture to the cream of wheat and cook for 1 minute longer or until thickened to your liking, and long enough for the egg to cook.

This stuff is AWESOME! If you add chocolate pudding, it makes it nice and sweet.

Amy

I agree with keeping your Protein intake high, but you can do it without eating blended meat.< /p>

I eat greek yogurt, eggs, thick Protein shakes and cottage cheese. Plenty of options to stay liquified meat-free!!

I did a few things...the first thing I think I had was a baked ricotta thing - recipe below (I used n/f cheeses just so it wasn't loaded with fat - and I also portioned this out to 4-5 servings (I think - maybe more)

8 oz of Ricotta cheese

1/2 cup grated Parmesan

1 large Egg, beaten

1 teaspoon Italian Seasoning

salt & pepper to taste

1/2 cup Marinara Sauce

1/2 cup shredded Mozzarella cheese

Mix ricotta cheese, parmesan, beaten egg, seasonings together and place in a oven proof dish. Pour marinara on top and top with mozzarella cheese. Bake it in the oven @ 450 for about 20-25 minutes (best) or nuke it till hot and bubbly.

I also bought the Foster Farm SW chicken strips (in the lunch meat section usually) and put that in my mini chopper - so it was totally ground up fine, but not liquified) and added some of that (just like 3 strips) to cottage cheese (and warmed it in the microwave) - I still am eating this actually - just had it for lunch :)).

I also ate egg beaters (usually mixed with cottage cheese to add more protein)....I did do cream of wheat once or twice, but found it didn't keep me full like the Protein did. I did add chocolate Protein powder to some cream of wheat - it was okay - kept me full, but wasn't the best tasting thing I've eaten.

The chicken cottage cheese thing sounds good hdmama I need to get dinner started soon and I have no idea what I am going to do, my poor hubbie and son have been eating lots of leftovers because when I do get myself to cook, I cook a lot of it so it will last this mushie diet has been hard on them but they are troopers. Normally I would cook a full on meal every night, I love to cook and cook well so I suppose I need to get back to that for them.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
