Piercing pain on the left

Recommended Posts

I was banded on 12/3 and pretty much all the pain is gone except for the piercing pain on the left.

It hurts the most when I'm coughing or sneezing. Anyone else had this pain? How long did it last?

The pain was much worse than anything else I've experienced in this surgery.

I was banded 11/25 and had no pain at all till a week later when I started getting these pains in my side like someone was stabbing me with a knife...oh it was HORRIBLE I called the doc in a pannic and he said it was normal and could happen for the first 2 months off and on, not to worry and it would get better. After the one day the pain stopped and I havent had one since.

I had pain in every section of my stomach and back. Go figure! But on the left side it's the port pain and my doctor told me it usually takes about 4 weeks. It's going away but I can definitely feel it and every once in awhile I get a twinge just to remind me it's there.

I was also banded on 12/3, but my pain is in my left shoulder and it goes from my neck to my shoulder. It feels like a constant piercing, like a nerve is pinched ALL DAY LONG. How long does this last?

YES I had the same thing. I had it for about 10 days and then it vanished. I know what you mean though. It was sooo annoying. The worst part of the whole process in my opinion. For me, laying down helped - even on that shoulder. Hang in there!

I actually had the same thing happen to me after I stupidly lifted a 30 pound dog only a week after surgery. I asked my doctor about it and he said that I probably tore some scar tissue and that it would take a couple months to truely heal that after 6 months I would for sure not feel that pain anymore. It actually was so bad at one point that I couldnt walk or twist or move in certain ways otherwise I would feel a sharp pinch where the port is. So what I did was I went to a drug store and purchased a gauze bandage to wrap tightly around my waist where the port was to hold it in place because I noticed it didnt hurt as much when I did that. I had it on for about 2.5 months before i could take it off and I no longer feel any pain at all. Try that and see it helps. You could just have either ripped scar tissue or irritation. The gauze wrap kinda helps keep it in place an heal faster I think. Well I hope that helped. If you still have pain after 6 months then I would be concerned.

I just had to call my surgeon for the same piercing left side rib pain. He told me that it was a combination of gas pain or Constipation. He told me to start taking Miralax and chewable gas x. Since starting those medicines, I have felt a significant improvement.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
