Restriction and then tapering off

Recommended Posts

I have had 2 fills so far. When I got the 2nd one a month ago, I felt so tight and thought there was no way I was going to be getting another for a long time. Now I am all the sudden I am able to eat more and dont feel that same restriction. Is this typical? I am due for another a few days before Christmas. I just hope nothing is wrong with the band. The only time I lose weight it seems is when I am on the liquid diet after surgery and fills. Then I stay at that weight till next fill. Im getting frustrated.

It's very typical for the band to loosen up fairly quickly during your first fills, although not everyone experiences that. You're losing fat around your stomach, and some of the initial restriction after a fill is from swelling. As you get closer to your "sweet spot", restriction lasts much longer, and often, you only need a tiny tweak with any additional adjustments after that.

I was wondering about this as I had my first fill on Friday and I am already getting very hungry. Dr did say to come back in two weeks if I dont feel my hunger is under control. I think I will be going back in the two weeks. I am having to control my eating which is very hard for me as I am hungry except for about an hour after eating.

It will take a few fills to reach good restriction and even then I have to continue to have the adjustments once a month because I have been experiencing evaporation in my band. It takes very little to put me back at my peak but I have to really keep track of it.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
