I would think more than one Protein shake a day would be defeating the purpose of the band. shakes, Soups, and creamy things like ice cream and pudding are "Slider Foods" and move quickly thru the band.

If I had the willpower to exist on just Protein Shakes and one small meal a day, I would have save $17,000 and not gotten the band....

Before I had surgery, I existed on Protein shakes through the day without any problems. They satisfied me and I was never hungry. My problem came when I sat down and actually ate real food. I couldn't stop with a normal amount of food...I'd eat a 2nd or even a 3rd helping. I could...and would...eat enough food for 3 grown people in one sitting and walk away from the table just comfortably full...not stuffed or ready to pop...just 'full'. The worst part was that within an hour or two I was looking for something to eat again.

So, for me, the band serves the purpose of stopping me long before I reach that point. Right now I still don't have restriction, so it's all will power...but as we all know, our willpower doesn't last long enough to do something about our weight permanently and I'm hoping I'll have restriction by the time mine caves.

I believe everyone should do what works for them but for me Protein Shakes several times a day defeats my own personal purpose in getting the band. Solid Proteins and veggies are my food of choice and as far as I have been taught by my bariatric surgeon and the educational videos that came with my Allergan band, the band is meant for solids. That is the way I choose to use my band and what has been successful for me so far. I don't eat in between and I don't eat several times a day. I choose to eat twice a day and eat solids that fill me up and keep me full for awhile. I then drink my liquids in between keeping the proper time in between the meals. But, that said, I do what is suggested by my surgeon and what works for me only.

By liquids, I am meaning Water and crystal light.

That's the nice thing about the band...it works in a variety of ways and allows us to eat in a way we're comfortable with...but helps control the amount.

I'm comfortable with shakes during the day and I don't get hungry so it's not an issue that they 'slide' through. My danger time is in the evening and that's where I need the band to keep me from eating to excess.

If someone drinks shakes all day and struggles with hunger, it's not a good option for them.

I am soooo with you, WalkingFool! I was starving at day 6. Today, I'm 17 days post-op and can eat many solid foods. I lost weight up until day 10, but haven't lost any since. I'm trying to eat well (sometimes I can do it, sometimes I don't).

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
