I am oversea and I need help please?

Recommended Posts

I am oversea and won't be back till Dec 12th. I think there is something wrong with my band. Since I have arrived here, I can hardly eat and I know it is normal after flying; however, thease past 2 days even sipping Water hurts eapecially in my belly area. When I drink water it's stucked too and my last fill was in September. No matter how much I chew food, the pain is there. I can hardly eat even with liquid is so painful. Oh and another thing, I normally do not burp but I have been doing it every time I have the pain (sipping water especially) and the gurgling sounds are horrible too.

Before I left U.S. I had swine flu and I cough and threw up so many time, do you think my band slipped and that is why I have the pain?

Thank you so much,

I'm terribly sorry you're going through this, and to make matters worse, you're out of the country (that's one of my biggest fears too). Unfortunately, you are showing some symptoms of a slipped band, but that doesn't necessarily make it so.

First think I would do is to call your doctor to get his advice. For one thing, you could end up having a severe slip that needs immediate medical attention, and you need to know the symptoms (I've heard that that can be very painful). In the meantime, make sure to stay on liquids only and sip slowly as not to aggravate the band anymore than it already is. I wouldn't try solid food again until you can drink liquids easily, and then I'd only try mushies until you get back home.

Best wishes to you, and I hope you're feeling better soon.

Hi:

Another reason to call your surgeon is that he may have someone to recommend for you to see in the country where you are. I you do go on all liquids make sure that you add Protein in. You can also get liquid Vitamins to help you through this all liquids phase.

I hope you feel better soon. Please let us know how you're doing.

Take care.

Sue

Thank you so much for your help. I did get a doctor name here but unfortunatly it is the national holiday week and the on call doctor does not know mucha bout lap band. It is not that common in this country. I cannot wait to go back to see my surgeon, hopefully I can hang on till then.

Thanks again,

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
