Ok Hot chocolate was made and it's good. I could improve it but it was good for the first try..

4oz skim milk

1/4 teaspoon vanilla

pinch of cinnamon

1 scoop designer whey chocolate Protein powder

I made it like old fashioned hot chocolate on the stove.. milk, then dumped eveything else in and stirred until it started to bubble.

I could have made it creamier by adding some yogurt or non-dairy Creamer, and the sugar free Chocolate pudding this is good too.

thank ya'll sooo much for the tips and tricks and recipes! My problem is that my doctor doesnt allow me to have any add-ins like fruits or anything like that to my shake...nor icecream of any sort. It has to be straight powder with skim milk or Water

What about sugar-free syrups? Alot of these recipes only use whey Protein mix, Water and sugar-free syrups.

I have tried so many Protein powders and the one that I like the best is the Unjury. The vanilla is sooo good. They have sample packs so you can try . It is alot better than spending a lot of money on something that you can't drink. And they ship it quick to. Just stick with it and you will be so proud of yourself . Just go to unjury.com

I hated the shakes as well. The one I could tolerate the longest was the Isopure diluted with lots of Water and drink it throughout the day.

Good luck - I truly believe the liquids/shake phase was the hardest part of the journey. I guess it's one last way to test your determination.

I also have the Bariatric Advantage Proteins, I have them in chocolate, chocolate Mint and vanilla. The chocolate by itself is awful. But I have learned if I blend it with skim milk, ice cubes, and a banana. Thats good. I add bananas, frozen strawberries, frozen blackberries. Bananas is probably the most versatile and easiest addition. The only shake I can take without addition is the chocolate mint.

Best of luck!!

I went to the support group meeting on Thursday night and they cautioned us to be very careful about the pre-op shakes we select because it is calorie restricted. They recommened high Protein under 200 calories. They mentioned that we should aim for 60-80 grams of Protein per day and some shakes wouldn't come close to that.

Our recommended shakes were EAS Myoplex Lite & SlimFast High Protein.

My doctor also doesn't allow add ins, although we can eat as much raw veggies as we want.

Post-Op Protein Shakes are different then those on the pre-op. Be sure to run it by the nutrionist first if it isn't on their list. I know I don't want to get on the operating table only to find out my liver didn't shrink enough because I didn't do the right shakes.

I only drink EAS Myoplex. I've researched the heck outta of this stuff and so has my spouse on my behalf. We found that the other stuff has a lot of calories for the amount of Protein you get. Like the Atkins has only like 15 grams of Protein for 110 calories or something like that. When the Myoplex Lite is 20g of protein for 170 calories but it's also low in carbs and sugar. So that's where you have to watch everything on the labels.

I have 8 more shakes to go before my surgery and I've survived on EAS alone. We can't do add ins or anything. My doc is pretty strict. But I do feel really full on the EAS so I'm not going to crazy. Don't sip your shakes, you should have it finished in less than 10 mins or else your "nibbling" and your going to stay hungry.

I found with the vanilla shake you can add coconut extract w/a little pineapple juice (just a little like an oz due to high sugar) and it makes a pina calada. Also, add a little pumpkin spice to a vanilla powder and some cinnamon and you'll get a pumpkin drink. That's yummy! Especially around this time of year when everyones eatting yummy stuff. In the mornings I have Decaf powder to a choc. shake w/cinnamon and make my own starbucks type shake.

You can do this! Just gotta get creative and think about your favorite foods and spend some time thinking about how you can alter a shake to mimic that flavor. I'm still thinking about to make a shake taste like BBQ or a good steak. LOL

The Amplified Wheybolic Extreme 60 in chocolate is awesome. 12 oz of Water mixed with 3 scoops gives you the following:

Calories: 280

Total Fat: 1 gram

Cholesterol: 15 mg

Total Carbs: 7 grams

Protein: 60 grams

Calcium: 280 mgs

Sodium: 300 mgs

Potassium: 450 mg

AND, it tastes great. I also have the strawberry but I have to lower the amount I put into it because it is very strong.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
