1st fill tomorrow & I have some ????

Recommended Posts

Hey there! I am having my 1st fill in the morning & I'm wondering a few things. I had surgery 9/21 & have lost around 40lbs since the pre-op diet phase. The weightloss is definitely nothing to sneeze at (especially w/o a fill), but it has slowed down significantly!!!! Plus, I am getting hungry sooner & can eat larger amounts if I choose to. Will the weightloss pick back up after the fill? If so, what should I expect (how much? how fast?)? Will I feel restriction after just one fill, or will it take several before I actually experience the restriction? Thanks so much for your advice & encouragement!!!

Hi Luv,

well everyone is different, but it usually takes a few fils before you feel restriction. for me, the hunger never really went away, i'm just restricted when eating. once i get the full feeling then i stop.. with that and exercise the weight will come off! i just had revision surgery(my band slipped) and had my first fill 10 days ago. i'm not really filling restriction so i'm calling my dr. to ask him for another fill. my next appointment is at the end of january, but i can't wait that long. hopefully you'll feel a difference soon and your weight will continue to come off. great job on losing 40 lbs already!!

holy smokes!!!! they put 8ccs in my band for my 1st fill!!!! eek.gif why so much? what does this mean? during the procedure, they also completely overshot the band & went through it, so the saline was sent into the abyss. that doesn't mean they punctured my band & now i will have a leak, does it?

thanks, noura for your help!

My guess is the 8 ccs is based upon your level of hunger and pouch capacity? Otherwise, it doesn't really mean anything. Fill levels differ widely from person to person. Band ports have a very hard back, can't punch through it with a fill needle. My guess is they simply missed your port entirely?

8 cc's? Hmmm...have you tried eating or drinking yet? I'd think with 8cc's you'd be *really* restricted. Did they try to pull any of the saline out to see if they actually got it in the band?

After my fill yesterday, the doc pulled back on the syringe to make sure there was actually saline in the band. Sort of a double check.

.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
