OMG I have a Runny Nose

Recommended Posts

My surgery is Monday and my nose is running. I also have an occasional cough due to my sinuses draining. I did have a sinus infection and took a Z-pac to clear it up. Will they postpone my surgery due to a runny nose? I hope not because my mother fly in on saturday:scared2:

Do you have a fever? If not, I wouldn't worry too much. But that being said...I am a world class worry wart!

Good luck. My surgery is for 12/9. I will say a prayer for you!

OK here is my five cents about a runny nose or any other cold like symptom. I had a cold the day of my surgery...so I used eye drops, cough drops, nose spray and made a wish. I seemed to hide it well enough as I had the surgery as planned, however recovery was harder. The cold turned into streap throat and broncitus and I am still on antibiotics, coughing your lungs out post surgery is SUPER bad and for the throat, well I just ate lots of popsicles. Now that its over i can say that if I could have postponed surgery for just one week I would have done it. My problem was that if I would have told them, they would have postponed it but the next surgery date could have been a month later....so since I had already had my share of delays I chose to do what I did......just be warned....it could be a lot harder recovery.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
