Which Food Plan After Lapband?

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I am having my surgery on Wed. 12/9/09. And I have been doing Jenny Craig for the past month. I've only lost about 4 lbs., but hey, I could have easily gained 15 in the past month, so I'll take it!

Anyway, I am just wondering what food plan, if any, people are doing after their 14 days of liquids after surgery? I feel I need a plan to keep me on track. I tend to eat too much when left to my own devices. I'm wondering if anyone is doing WW or jenny craig, etc. Any input or recommendations would be great! Thank you very much!

Michelle

1/2 to 1 1/2 cups of food. That is pretty much it. I only eat Protein and green vegetables. If you feel you need it, you can add a serving of fruit or whole grains with your protein. Bandsters have the most problem with protein, so you will do best if you concentrate on that.

Snacking is a no no but if you are truely hungry you can have a small 1oz serving of protein.

I am allowed 4-5 oz of food at every meal and 2 Protein shakes. I eat alot of fish and chicken, all natural Peanut Butter (not alot because of the calories), Fat Free ricotta cheese, oatmeal, eggs, yogurt,be sure you pick foods that are higher in Protein. It will help you through what they call "Bandsters Hell" I was on of the lucky ones that didn't go through it because I eat the higher protein and it kept me full. Banana's are also good.

I eat 6 small meals per day...one about every 3 hours. For 1 of the meals I eat normally, just not over 1 cup of food total and it's mostly Protein and vegies and only about a teaspoon (dinnerwear not measuring spoon) of carbs. At some point I may do 3 food meals but the other 3 'in between' meals will always be Protein shakes just to keep the blood sugar level.

Portion Control only. For me, part of recovering from being overweight was giving up dieting and the dieting mentality forever.

I'd had success with this in the past (but its very hard to ditch a lifetime of dieting habits) but I still ate too much to lose significant weight.

To me, no food is good or bad. I dont believe in beating yourself up because you ate white bread and i dont believe in fooling yourself that becuase you get 100 grams of Protein in your day you can forget about the other crap that comes in packaged food like Protein shakes and lean cuisines. I believe you should eat white bread if you want to and you should drink Protein Shakes if you want to, or you can do BOTH but neither makes for a good or bad diet overall. Moderation, common sense and proper portion control are what's important.

Worked for me anyway, along with lots of tough exercise.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
