I AM HAVING LAP BAND SURGERY THIS MONDAY AT WILLIAM BEAUMONT HOSPITAL BY DR ZOE DEOL AND I'M GETTING A BIT NERVOUS AND EXCITED ALL AT THE SAME TIME. THIS IS MY FIRST TIME POSTING A MESSAGE HERE BUT I HAVE BEEN FOLLOWING WITH YOU GUYS THIS LAST MONTH AND FOUND IT VERY HELPFUL. I HAVE A 17 YEAR OLD SON AND A 1 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WHO WAS A 20 WEDDING ANIVERSARY SUPRISE! MY HUSBAND IS BEING VERY SUPPORTIVE AND HAS NEVER MADE MY WEIGHT AN ISSUE.

WE BOTH ARE IN OUR 40S AND I'M BEING TIRED OF PEOPLE ASKING ME IF CHRISTA IS OUR GRANDCHILD. SHE IS ONE OF THE MAIN REASONS I AM GOING THRU THIS. I WANT TO BE AROUND FOR HER AND BE ABLE TO GO OUTSIDE AND PLAY OR TAKE HER PLACES AND NOT BE EMBARASSED ON HOW I LOOK. I HAVE NOT TOLD ANYONE I'M HAVING THIS SURGERY EXCEPT MY HUSBAND, SON, SISTER, AND OF COURSE YOU GUYS. I WOULD APPRICIATE ANY SUPPORT YOU CAN GIVE ME. WISH ME LUCK! THANK YOU.

:D

Hi Daria,

I am also having a band surgery on Monday 17 with DR Shayani in IL.

Also scared and excited. I am having what if what if what if thoughts. I never had any surgeries and don't know what to expect. I am 29 years old and want to have a healthy life ahead of me.

Good luck with you surgery and wish me the same.

We will be having our bandiversary in a year with hopefully 100 pounds less and healthier:)

Zhanna

I regret i didnt learn about the band sooner. I think i would have went to more public pools and stuff with my dtr if i had been thinner. I havent worn shorts in 15 years, but maybe this coming summer....!Best of luck to you

Hi there! I was banded by Dr. Deol on September 22, 2003! She's a wonderful surgeon and the staff at William Beaumont in Troy is exceptional. I know it's nerve racking to wait, but trust me, you'll be fine. Congratulations on being banded :D

Daria ~

I hope surgery went well for you on Monday. You certainly made the right decision to have WLS. Congrats on your newest family addition. My reasons for having the surgery is similar to yours, my young son - he's four years old and I want to be with him for a long time. In April, I will be 37 years old and still want one more child. Was it difficult for you to get pregnant ?? Had you been trying ?? My plan is to lose about 50 more pounds and get pregnant. Wasn't sure if my age would make it difficult to conceive - I'm sure my weight added to the difficulty. Hey, we won't know unless we try.

Take care of yourself, pamper, pamper, pamper ... Have someone available to care for your small child while you relax and recover.

If you have any questions, or need advise, please let me know.

Congratulations and welcome to bandland !!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
