I've heard that about chicken too. It can be a problem for many people.

I have to wait two weeks between fills, which feels like an eternity to me also!

Is chili a slider food? I am very interested in an answer to that one!

My 1st & 2nd fills will be a month apart, but the doc did say if I needed a fill before that to just call the office and make an earlier appointment.

MissMS - the hummus with chicken is a great idea - I love hummus. I find cutting chicken into small bites across the grain helps too, not as stringy.

Melinco - super job on your loss - you go girl!

4 weeks here, too. I'm not really hungry, but I am bored. and cold. and stuck on a tall hill with far too much snow. not a good place for me!

are you eating plenty of Protein and some complex carbs? that mixture works well for me.

I know I should know this, but what are complex carbs?

I know I should know this, but what are complex carbs?

Whole grains; such as steel cut oats, whole grain rice, 100% whole grain bread.< /p>

I'm getting a fill today too. It's my second. Wish me luck!!!

Complex carbs come from foods like whole grain bread, Pasta, rice, yams. Simple carbs are things like corn Syrup, fruitose and glucose. These sugars are easily absorbed by the body and turn to fat quickly. Complex carbs, although they also have sugars take longer to digest and will fuel the body. I read that people on a w/l program need 100 grams of complex cabs a day.

Oh, I should add that complex carbs will keep you satisfied, where simple carbs will only satisfy for a short time - hence the sugar rush/high.

Sorry to disagree with what you just said but pasta and rice are not complex carbs or bread. Complex carbs are carbs you get from healthy foods like fruits and vegetables. Simple carbs come from foods that have to be processed.

What they said...If I have an egg and 1/2 a small whole wheat bagel it is about 130 calories, but it is filling, and I am fine for the morning.

Oats tend to drop me, because I haven't found a Protein that I like with them.

lunch I always have veggies with a protein, or Beans. The beans aren't a full protein, but do have the protein carb combo.

Good thoughts for those getting fills. I am not partial. Mine hurt after the fact.

This may not be a hard and fast rule, but what helps me to remember what is a complex carb vs a simple carb is its color.

White tends to be simple, such as sugar, white potatoes, white rice, white Pasta, white bread, etc.

Brown tends to be complex, such as brown rice, whole wheat pasta, whole grain breads, etc.

Also, many fruits and veggies are considered complex carbs (remember, I said many, not all).

I hope this helps in remembering what is considered simple vs complex. And if you ever forget, Dr. Google is great with these kinds of things.

Is chili a slider food? I am very interested in an answer to that one!

I'd say it depends on how the chili is prepared.

If it is very runny, I'd say it would easily be classified as a slider, since it will slip right through the band.

However, if it's like I make it, very thick and chunky and not much liquid, then I'd say it is not a slider. The last batch I made I used ground turkey breast, onion, can of roasted Mexican style tomatoes, diced, 1 can of Tomato sauce, 1 can kidney Beans, 1 can of pinto beans (rinsed both beans), as well as cumin, chile powder, salt, pepper, garlic powder.

I cook it until it is nice and thick. It is full of Protein and Fiber. And, if you add even more veggies, like bell peppers, etc., it has even more nutrition in it.

If you are thinking of Wendy's chile, I'd say it would run towards a slider, but if you strain most of the liquid off, then you'd have a non-slider.

Brown rice, and whole wheat pasta are complex carbs. We only use whole grains.

I'm here....

I don't officially weigh in until Wed but the scales were showing a 2lb loss this morning----hoping I can hold onto that. TOM was last week and I only maintained so maybe it is catching up to me,

I go tomorrow for my 6 week check up. I am half hoping I get my first fill and half hoping I don't. I haven't had a single issue with any foods I have tried and I secretly like that. However, I am losing weight very very slowly and I worry I am not adjusting my lifestyle enough to the band.

Ugh.........maybe I am just scared.

Is anyone having issues with a dry throat? I thought I was getting sick but I am not....but my throat is super dry no matter what ( has been for a week) I don't have any goo or acid feeling......just sand paper in the back of my mouth.

Oh---and my DH wants me to talk to the doc about bad breath......he says every now and then I am getting it.

Anyone have these issues???

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
