To fill or not to fill_

Recommended Posts

Any advice will be helpful. Thanks in advance for you time.

I feel like I am in a sort of strange transitional place.

I am pretty much at my goal weight of 140 give or take a pound.

I do not really want to lose any more weight, but at the same time I am affraid to gain. I have been at 140 for about 6 months. Life banded was pretty easy for me. I had few problems, vomited very little etc..

I had my last fill in October of 2008. At that time I was filled to 5.0. In the last three weeks I have had issues with vomiting and feeling alot of gas. My first thought was that I am eating too much. I do not have the same feeling of fullness and being over full seems to creep up on me.

I went on mushies and liquids for a few days and feel much better with no gas or vomiting, just hungry.

Once on solids again, I cut back on portion size and problems remained resolved.

I am debating scheduling a fill and just taking me back to the 5 or slightly over. I was thinking I could maintain my weight at that fill but at the same time feel fuller.

What are your thoughts?

Have you experienced anything like this?

:smile::confused::tongue::confused::blink::confused:

I think it would be a good idea to get a little fill. It is possible that as you maintained (CONGRATULATIONS!!!!) the 140 pounds you body composition changed and you lost fat and weight between your band and stomach. This would make the band a little looser. I can't tell you how proud of you I am for maintaining, because it is the one thing I am afraid I will fail at. I know how to gain and I know how to lose, but maintenance is a new story!!!

Good luck,

Mimi

Mimi,

Thank you so much for the kinds words. I think we are the only ones who understand how much satisfaction it gives us to maintain our weight. Pre-band, I never maintained my weight for more than two months. It does feel good to be pretty much the same for almost a year. I love the fact that I do not have to have so many different clothes sizes in my closet anymore.

CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU TOO.

Great job yourself. I understand the fear of gaining as I have it to. I think that we need to remind ourselves (sometimes daily :tongue2: ) just how far we have come. I will put my money on you remaining sucessful. :P

I think you might be on to something as far as loosing fat in the stomach. I have gone down 3 inches in the waist over the last 4 months (lost only inches not weight). I tried a new excercise program and lost from my middle. I scheduled an appt to get a fill this am. I think your advice to get a small one is correct.

Thanks so much for your help.

Hope you have great holidays

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
